Right, the Mk1 SMR was based off of the HK416 requirement, but the Mk1 was also the thinnest of the SMR rails. All following ones had wider dimensions.

Does anyone know what's going on about the current selection of SMRs? Hopefully only the mlok selections aren't all we get now.
I've seen some left over that dealers have but on geisseles page, there are essentially two rails available. I'm hoping the mk5s will be available again.
That could be a possible explanation why a SMR with smaller dimensions than the Mk1 was not created, but it's still interesting that all of the newer rails had even wider dimensions.
I've been pretty satisfied with the way my MK2 handles heat. I think it actually stays a bit cooler than my old school Colt CAR handguards.
Gents. I think I'm screwed. I ordered a Noveske Recon barrel to pair with my SMR MKI that is 15"......I know. I'm a moron.
Not sure WHAT I was thinking. How little clearance is my barrel going to have remaining past the rail, if any???
Wouldn't be a big deal if I wasn't planning on running a can on it.
