I want to upgrade XM177 flashhider
Hello all, this is my first post on this forum, so please forgive me if my question has already been addressed. I own a pre-ban Eagle Arms CAR-15 rifle. The barrel on this rifle is very unique. Most CAR style barrels I've seen have 11.5" barrels with a 4.5" CAR flashhider. My barrel is actually a 16" stainless steel heavy barrel, with the last 4.5" machined down and a false CAR flashhider slipped over the end. I've attached pictures bellow.
In the first picture, you can see what the hider looks like with my 12" rail. In the second picture, you can see the lock washer where the hider meets the barrel. The third pic shows where the barrel actually ends inside the hider.
My dillema is that the flash hider is more of a barrel wieght than anything, and I'd like to replace it with something more effective. Any ideas on what I can do and keep the barrel at 16"?

why not just stick an A2 hider on the end? it might look a bit ugly if your barrel was turned down for the slip-over flash hider, but it'll be lighter.

Militarymoron, do you know if the barrel is threaded at the muzzle or back at the shoulder where the fh meets the barrel?

i'm making the assumption that it's threaded at the muzzle, because the slip-over hiders i've seen are made to slip over a standard barrel without adding length. if this is a custom job, i don't know.
remove the hider if you can, and report back.

I just found a pic online of the exact same rifle I have except my barrel is stainless. The barrel does not end where the hider meets the barrel. The Barrel actually ends just before where the flash hider cuts are. I'd try to remove the hider, but I don't have the proper tools to do it without damaging the gun.
