It really all depends on whether you carry your extra mags upside down or right side up. I carry mine upside down, bullets facing backwards because the floor plate of the magazine will not allow me to put them in the carrier right side up. Thus when I pull a reload I spin the mag vertically which changes it orientation to right side up, facing forward.
If at first you don't succeed, take a hammer to it. If you break it you probably needed to replace it anyway.
