    2.800 oal length is .308 sammi max length. Smaller bullets have shorter oal. I seat my 150 grains to 2.735 as per bullet mfg reccomendation. If you don’t, you may or may not have enough neck tension due to insufficient bullet depth. You also are losing pressure and hence, velocity if you are using a reccomended charge and not seating the bullet in far enough. Measure a factory 150 grain round, I doubt it is 2.800” oal. If you did that with a 125 grain bullet, you’d have hardly any bullet in the neck! A good guidline is to have a minimum of one caliber seating depth of bullet in the case. So a .308” minimum of bullet depth in the case.
