M1 garand operating rod damage
Just got done cleaning one of m1 garands. Noticed a bright burr on the inside of operating rod. I don't recall it being there last time the rifle was field stripped. Under my ownership the operating rod has never jumped out of the receiver groove. Ammo used is my handload of 49.0 gr imr 4064 and Sierra 155 Palma. The rifle functioned fine and shot well. My other rifle doesn't exhibit this mark. Could the tab be thin enough to cause the operating rod to twist slightly ? It does appear that the burr is located wear the bolt engages the operating rod.

Do you see any marks on the receiver where that part of the op rod is hitting?
How old is your operating rod spring? What is the free length of the spring? The spring is an inexpensive part to replace. http://www.garandgear.com/m1-garand-spring.html

I will measure the spring when I get home. It seemed like the same length as the others.

Went ahead and ordered 2 springs from provided link. I agree, cheap insurance!
