I keep my sprints to 500m and aim for 1:30. I'm far from an elite rower and usually just use it as part of a circuit or a warmup.
Last time I used the rowing machine was in December, as one of the events in a multi part fitness test. I rowed 1km in 3:48. Not sure how much faster I could do it, if that was the only thing I was doing.
I've only tried the rowing machine a few times to be honest, but quite enjoy it.
I rowed in college (30yrs ago)….but I still try to get on my concept2 twice a week. To me a 1:30 or less split time (500m) is impressive. I can manage a 1:40 split on sprints. The top split on the concept2 site 1:14 (below), but I’d say your already in or close to the 90th percentile.
Perhaps take some training or study some YT videos on form. As you work through a piece and get tired, focus on maintaining good form. Im not sure where you have the resistance set, but the value is not the same from machine to machine. Look for a menu item called “drag factor”. You might need to make small adjustments if you go between machines. Figure out a setting that works for you….a lower resistance is usually coupled with a faster stroke rate to get to the same split time.

I use rowing as my main cardio, along with rucking.
My baseline par times are 1:30 for 500m, 7 minutes for 2000k, and 18 minutes for 5000k
