At what distance? I'm not sure the 1-12 twist is unsatisfactory.
The 7.62x39 is roughly a 300 yard round for the best accuracy. Some of the factory FAL barrels were 1-12 barrels, while others were 1-11 or 1-11.5 twist(s). True enough I would prefer a 1-10 twist (I think the older YHM barrel I have is 1-10) but IMHO I wont be trying to kill deer or hogs beyond 300 yards regardless. I'll limit the 7.62x39 to the same basic limitations as the US 30-30.
