Best Target For Zeroing Red Dot

Shouldn't you be using your large aperture for shorter distances? Otherwise you will be shooting lower than expected using your larger CQB aperture. Honest question as I really don't know.

I zero my BUIS (cut carry handle) @ 50y using the small hole and just leave it there. I don't change it.
