I just got the status Form 4. My check was cashed 9/18 (I knew this), but it went pending on the same day.
That seems odd, considering that it was delivered to Atlanta 9/17. How could it have gone pending before it ever got to the NFA branch to begin with?

Why do the loudest do the least?
According to Mary, they're now using the check chasing date as the pending date. The last one I had actually has a Pending date of 10/17, and the check cashing date of 10/20. It was a USPS MO, so I guess it took until the next business day (Fri to Mon) to post.
Depending on who answers the phone, you'll either get the check cashed date +/- a day or so, or some date a couple weeks later, as the Pending date. Doesn't matter either way...it's just semantics at that point. It still got there the same day.
Oh, that's new. Mary was who I spoke to today. My last Form was approved Dec 2011, so I've been out of this for a while.
I used to wait about 2 months after the check cashed to ensure it was "in the system", and then around the time it should have been approved to see if it was in a problem status or something.
If they are just telling us the day the check cashed, it seems like there's no point in calling whatsoever.

A lot can go wrong from the check cashing to actually getting in line for approval.
I wonder if this is push back from all the idiots that call every week looking for an update.
IF I called it would be like you, 2 months after check cashed to make sure it was pending.
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." Thomas Jefferson.
I'd say it's still worth a call about a month after you see the check cashed. They won't give you that pending date until it's actually in the system.
For instance, if your check was cashed on 12/15, you couldn't call today and get 12/15 as your Pending date. However, if you call in a couple weeks when the old format of pending dates would've existed, they'll give you the 12/15 date.
