Precisely.
If you want to go the piston route, SIG is one of the least viable options.
Wait until SHOT and see what HK and LWRC are doing. I'd take either long before buying anything by SIG.

What Happened to the American dream? It came true. You're looking at it.
I'm not trying to call out anybody with more experience on them than I...
but knowing how much R&D was put into it... it's hard to imagine that the 416 would have that problem.
My only real problem with the 416 is the stupid rail system height.
I'm also on board with Scottryan, and Littlelebowski.
We miss you, AC.
We miss you, ToddG.
I have a Sig556. Ok weapon after all the bugs were worked out. It's heavy as heck, though. Defintiely not a run and gun type weapon.
If you're in range, so are they...
While I haven't heard of THOSE specific problems, I have heard from reliable sources on this board about the gas blocks exploding under high round count supressed fire.I'm not trying to call out anybody with more experience on them than I...

That alone convinced me the HK 416 as is isn't ready for SOCOM use.
I certainly agree with everyone here that piston ARs are pretty pointless for most folks. Even Larry Vickers, who helped HK develop the 416, says that pistons aren't really needed unless you are going below 16 or even 14.5. And further, if you aren't running suppresser or full auto, then you are missing a lot of the advantage.
I do think that people can go too far lumping all piston ARs in the unproven category. Most certainly are, but not all. The HK 416, especially, has a pretty impressive list of adoptees. It is hard to imagine Delta going through all that trouble to adopt a gun that is less reliable. The results of the dust tests, IAR competition, etc also seem to point to the the 416 being pretty dang reliable.
Again, I am in total agreement that most folks don't need piston ARs. But let's not go overboard.
Let those who are fond of blaming and finding fault, while they sit safely at home, ask, ‘Why did you not do thus and so?’I wish they were on this voyage; I well believe that another voyage of a different kind awaits them.”
