You probably just had some paint still down in the porous Parkerized finish.
Cold blue will make bare metal more likely to rust. Plain spray paint would offer more protection.
What you are seeing is discoloration from residual paint and removing the oils from the parkerizing.
It will not get any better. Cold blue will only create a corrosion issue. Repaint, CeraKote or have it blasted bad parkerized.

Damn, sadly, the coloring looks pretty good too.
I don't know if the coldblue needs a scrub off or not. But, maybe it would be good to rub it with some high grit paper and get some high temp black paint on that sum-b and call her good.
How much do you have into the project? Maybe cut your loss and let somebody who wants to have a barrel coated deal with it.
Other option is to degrease and throw a coat of BBQ paint on it.
