BUIS: KAC 200-600 micro or Troy?
Do y'all think one of these is preferable to the other overall, or would one or the other be the top choice in certain specific situations? CQB? Primary sight on a non-optic KISS carbine? Anti-coyote truck carbine? Iron sight hunting rig?

I prefer the KAC because its skinnier where the CH is. I find the Troy sticks out a bit far, and can hinder getting a good grasp on the CH. Just too wide around the aperture for me....The KAC is skinner, and doesnt stick out past the top of the receiver like the Troy does.

I prefer the KAC as the previous poster said its skinnier but the peep is finer for more precise sight picture plus adjustable for elevation on the fly. The Troy is great but the default peep when you flip it up is the ghost ring.

If it's a fighting gun the Troy will work just fine. I've never had an issue with them interfering with the CH.
For a more precise BUIS the KAC gets the nod.
I guess one or the other fits different needs you listed. What's the primary use for the rifle?

I would personally go with the KAC as I've broken 2 of the Troy. My gear gets pretty beat on, but thats how it goes sometimes. I know lots of guys who have never had any trouble with their Troy units.
KAC

Go for the KAC. It's everything you'll need and IIRC you cannot store the Troy with the small apperature ready. You would have to flip up the rear sight and then flip to the small apperature or take it apart and reverse it.

Troy. Robust as all hell and you have a choice of apertures.

+1. You can order the rear from Troy with a reverse appeture.

At this point the rifle's primary use is helping my son get familiar with the 5.56mm platform before going to USMC boot camp in June. Later it will probably become a truck gun for helping local ranchers with coyote control.

What did you manage to break on your Troy sights? Did they take care of it for you?

I own a couple of each and while they are both good choices I definitely prefer the KAC.

KAC. Received mine today and am quite impressed with this little thing. Notably how solid it feels despite it's very small size.

I don't have it at hand at the moment and am in noway knowledgable in materials but I will say "it felt like it." Having used KAC products while on active duty and nowadays in law enforcement I have never had an issue nor been given any reason to question their product's durability and reliability. With this new BUIS, I don't foresee that changing.

I doubt anyone would have problems with Troy returning anything that breaks. The first one fell apart, the second one won't extend up into a usable position, it grinds to a stop around the halfway mark.
Like I said, I've got Murphy riding my back when it comes to dealing with equipment, I tend to break a lot of things.

Why are people so worried about flipping back and forth between apertures? If you need to take that longer distance shot then you probably have time to flip between the apertures.
If time is so crucial that flipping between the small and large will get you killed, then why are you bothering to in the first place?

From the looks of it, the whole thing is MIM'd except for the claw and pinch bolt. I wonder if members will start hating on the KAC 600m rear sight like they took to LMT for their gas key?

As a training tool the Troy would be closer to the A2 sight that your son would be learning on in the Corps.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but this is going to be an iron sighted only gun correct?
What's wrong with a good old A2 carrying handle?
