    Magpul Rifle Length Hand Guards

I think I know the answer here but I'm not 100% so I'm asking anyways....

The rifle length hand guard, when installed, the little tab at the top of the hand guard sticks outside of the hand guard retainer. Since I tried everything to get the tab under the retainer my guess is that since the retainer is triangular this is how they are supposed to be.

The same tab is inside the carbine circular retainer.

Anybody know for sure or did I instal the hand guard wrong?

I have two midlength uppers with MOE forends and triangle retainers. They both look just like that and work fine. I put one on, but the other came from the factory and it looks just like that.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

    yours looks fine to me....
does it wiggle excessively? seem to fit badly? the plastic tab you're referencing is a smaller ridge that sits outside the retainer.
inside the retainer the hand-guard is shaped to fit inside the retainer.

unless I'm wrong (often am) the plastic tab/ridge you're questioning simply doens't exist on the shorter guards and that's why you don't see it.

that's the only one I have.

On my middy the tab is outside, on my friends 6920 the tab is inside. It's fine.

Thanks guys. Mine does not wiggle and feels tight but was used to having the tab inside the HG retainer on all my carbines. I chalked the difference up to different style HG retainers but wanted to be sure.

Just reread your message...the shorter hand guards DO have the tab/ridge.

My Mid length guards were manufactured in '13, and the tab is on the outside.

would that tab be there to allow the Magpul handguards to work with both circular and triangular endcaps?
