    Damn . . .

Man claims son was eaten by fellow inmates during riot in Venezuelan prison

“One of those who were with him when he was murdered saw everything that happened,” Herrera told reporters. “My son and two others were taken by 40 people, stabbed, hanged to bleed, and then Dorancel butchered them to feed all detainees,” he added, referring to infamous inmate Dorancel “people-eater” Vargas, who is in prison since 1999 for cannibalism.
The news comes as Venezuela’s economic crisis keeps worsening, with food shortages and rising poverty that are changing the landscape of this once prosperous country.

Dear diary, today we invited the Socialist neighbors over for dinner. They were delicious.

    Yeah, Damn is right.
I don't know if this is true or not, but considering the situation, I could see it being so.

Letters From Venezuela: Life In A Post-Collapse Society

    Interesting read . . .

Letters From Venezuela: This Is What Life Is Really Like In A Post-Collapse Society

    • Private ownership of guns was banned in 2012. Then things began to go downhill in a hurry.
    • In 2013, preppers were relabeled “hoarders” and the act of stocking up became illegal.
    • In 2014, the government instituted a fingerprint registry for those who wished to buy food to ensure they didn’t take more than their “share.”
    • In 2015, things began to devolve more quickly as electricity began to be rationed and farmers were forced to turn over their harvests to the government.
    • 2016 brought the announcement that folks were on their own – there was simply not enough food. As well, despite the rationing, an electricity shortage was announced.
    • 2016 also brought the news that the country was out of everything: food, medicine, and nearly all basic necessities. People were dying of starvation and malnourishment made other illnesses even worse. Hyperinflation brought exorbitant prices, like $150 for a dozen eggs.
    • Now, civil war is near (if not already happening.) They’re calling it “protests” but violence between the people and the government is ongoing. This rage is stoked by wealthy Venezuelans who enjoy luxurious meals, fabulous parties, and lush accommodations while the rest of the country struggles to find a bag of rice they can afford. Let them eat cake?

I have met in the Dominican, people that have left Venezuela. For 4 generations they made food products in Venezuela, now they have little raw material and smaller market.

They travel in armored SUV's , because they got tired of being kidnapped. They have been forced to hire Israeli security, for themselves, their children and their homes and factory. The security for the children are with them on the way to school, they stay at school all day to insure the kids aren't grabbed during the day.

Such a shame, for a country that should be rich as can be.

In Panama, there's many from Venezuela I have met. Those with $ left a while ago. Now, those without any $ are coming as the next wave, and that's not making Panamanians happy and discussion of new laws to prevent that in the works. We armed "moderate" rebels in Syria, yet, seem to ignore our legit neighbors to the south. US between a rock and a hard place really. Of course all problems of Venezuela are blamed on the "US Imperialists," blah blah, though all the Venezuelians I spoke to at least know better.

Other than a military coup, I don't see it changing.

Exactly right, unfortunately. One always prefers to see dumb-ass dictators taken down by democratic means but Maduro (I call him "MurDER-oh") will not go for that as long as the guys with the guns are with him. So, if the will of the people must be executed via a coup, that's still democratic, isn't it? Sorta?

If only Simon Bolivar could be brought back. Just for a couple months :-)

How such a great place could fall this far is beyond the pale. Venezuela has it all. I know the place and have always been proud of Venezuelans for their willingness to oust the goofballs, and they've had their share, but this last cycle starting with Chavez, they let it go too long and grow to big-- as always, start with an unbalanced society, promise anything to the poor majority, and presto, they are with you and the snowball is rolling towards.... utter failure.

Most of my people got out over the last 8 years.

Do we really need any further proof than Venezuela (and to a lesser extent, the UK we're seeing now), that when they outlaw private ownership and possession of arms, that then is the time to take the arms away from the ruling class, by force if necessary?

I'm not letting my family starve for any tinpot dictator, regardless of what the "law" says.

I think we could see this sort of thing in parts of the US within the next twenty years the way things are going and if we see an economic down turn.

Just how bad is the economy in Venezuela? Here’s what three locals told me.
