Talk me into, or out of, buying a 10mm
A hot load through a 10mm is actually more powerful than a .357. It can approach a weak. 44 magnum.
Correct, most commercially available ammunition isn’t pushed to the extreme. You either need to handload, or go with underwood or buffalo bore. The good commercial 10mm stuff still does pretty well though compared to the usual auto calibers.
Edited: There IS a good reason the 10mm with hot loads is becoming the “bear gun” of choice up in AK. A hot load with a 200-220 grain hard cast lead round is pretty potent. It kicks less than a .44 Mag so you have good shot placement if you have to dump several rounds in a charging Griz.
I got a G20 and have no regrets. It is my camping, and walking in the woods gun.
MY biggest mistake in getting that, is that I still want a 1911. Now... rather than just going with the flow in buying a .45, I’m thinking of getting one in 10mm. Sigh. It never ends.
