My first rifle

Hey all! I have been lurking here for quite a while, gaining info and reading all sorts of good things. With the help of what I learned here, and from the guys down at Rainier Arms, I put together my first rifle!

Noveske N4 blem lower
Magpul CTR/Mil Spec buffer tube
DPMS LPK (bought before I did enough reading, changing up soon)
Stark Grip (feels good, great size when wearing gloves)
BAD lever(going to take it off and try it for a while, been on since day one)

Rainier Arms Combat series upper (earlier style)
- Billet ultramatch upper reciever
-RA TB BCG
-DD M4 CHF M4 profile 16bbl
-RA XTC comp
-Magpul AFG (going to try to modify it to make it smaller)
-Vltor Light mount
-O-light M21 light (7/80/500 lum/strobe)
-Magpul MOE Handguard Carbine length
-Magpul MBUS
-A2 FSB (F marked)
-Aimpoint PRO (just got today!)

I have the bug and want to do another one, but I am going to train now and enjoy!

Comments welcomed!

Looks good. Glad you did your homework. Got a quality piece there. Only thing I would change is the rear site to a Troy but thats JMO.

Warthog - PM'd you, but it is a Vltor Offset Scout mount. The body of the O-light was too small for the Vltor mount for the G-series Surefires (which is what I had intended to get), but this one worked like a champ when we tried it in store down at Rainier. I got the screw style mount, not the QR version.

Dump the Olight as soon as possible, it wont hold up mounted to a rifle, ask me how I know.

Save up for a surefire.

That is part of my follow up list after having it for a while and learing more from this forum.

G2x (Tac) in, O-light moves to backpack
Wilson TTU in, DPMS stuff out, also adding non-rotating pins
H-buffer in, carbine buffer out

Once my new shop opens up (under construction now!) I'll get this stuff squared, and update this thread

Be aware surefire specifically says not to use the g2x on a weapon. Upon researching it, the g2x doesn't have dual springs that otherwise protect the housing during recoil. That said, there are lots of people running them without issue.

It seems that the durability of the LEDs has let quite a few people get away with this sort of abuse. If nothing else, one isn't out the cost of a hugely expensive light, just have a reason to upgrade to SF's latest and greatest housing/LED combo.

Does the Stark grip replace the trigger guard or am I seeing wrong? It looks pretty nice, I always wondered how they felt but I've never felt confident enough to buy one.

Stark grip has the trigger guard as part of the grip. I like the grip overall. It is very ergonomic to me, and has a 2x CR123 holder in the rubber cap in the bottom. It is best with gloves on (size large gloves/hands), but it is a little long with bare hands. The grip texture is fine, and is not overly aggressive at all (bare hands).

My only gripe is that I would like it to be more low profile on the back of the grip up high where it follows the contour of the reciever (think Magpul MAID sized) as I think it would allow better/quicker access to the safety, especially when trying to put the rifle back to safe. I have to break grip almost completely to get my thumb forward enough to pull the safety toggle back.

Overall I like the grip well. I would try one before you buy though, if you have smaller hands, it may not work for you due to the size.

Cheers!

I've always felt the Stark grip was as ugly as sin, but after trying one out, they really are very comfortable. Function over beauty always wins.

Thanks for the replies...I agree that they are ugly but that's what drew my attention. I do have smaller hands however. I'll just wait until I find somebody with one on their gun to try it out.

The problem, as a cursory review led me to believe , isnt related to LEDs per se. Its something about the housing standing up to the rigors of rifle fire without shock 'management'. But as I said, lots of folks seem to be running the g2x without issue. I just think folks should know before buying.

First off, ditch the afg. It wasn't designed for that short of a handguard. Secondly, grab a good sling... it's a must. Thirdly, grab a surefire g2l. Otherwise, nice stick.

Copy. I have a Magpul MS2 and ASAP plate. Also checked out the Elzetta lights last time I was at Rainier (as alternative to Surefire G-series)... Thanks for the input, cheers.

Just pulled the AFG off... that is what I was looking for and didn't even know it. the hand guard area feels much less bulky now, and easier to get back to the same grip with my reaction hand than trying to key into the AFG the way it was set up before. I am going to give this a go for a bit.
