Noveske Gen II lower

Out shooting a new build "M4" I put together last week. Discovered that the Noveske Gen II's won't allow the Surefire 60 or 100 round mags to lock up/seat in the weapon.

I thought it was a fluke but tried 10 different surefire mags. NO Bueno on any of them. Everything else worked like a champ.

The rifle is a
Afgan barrel.
Mur VLTOR upper
Noveske Gen II lower.
VLTOR EL forend
Grisselle straight trigger
VLTOR stock extention.
AAC break
Troy sights.
LMT enhanced BCG.
Switch block
Mag pull this and that.
And a Mirco T1 on top.

Seems to work nicely.

Anybody else have this experience?

Dirk

Congrats on the build, the Gen2s lowers aren't easy to find. The incompatibility with surefire hi-cap mags has been mentioned multiple times in the forum though, perhaps a little more research next time?

Ain't that the truth. As for the mag issue, its popped up a few times.

As for the OP were you able to discern what the incompatibility arose from? I Haven't had the chance to test the surefire mags with my Gen II lower to see the problem first hand.

Gen II

The flared lower hits the flared part of the mags, not allowing the mag to seat deep enough into the lower to lock up.

I had not done a search on the site regarding the subjust, My bad.

Gen II

Got my one of my Gen II's from Rainier in Wa State. I do a the majority of my purchase's from them as they are awesome to work with.

Mike H at Rainier has done an awesome job of sourcing parts for me for the past few years.

I also have one more Gen II I will build later using pretty much the same parts I listed above, later this season..

I had been building on VLTOR lowers and Uppers with what would be considered good stuff. If I had a complaint with the VLTOR lowers it would be that the triggers used by VLTOR simply suck.

I built three of them and am in the process of switching out the triggers with this new Grissille straight trigger that Mike had suggested to me. These triggers are sweet and rugged.

Pmags

Run perfect with pmags and any straight mag, just not the belled hi cap mags. I have not tried a Beta mag, I don't have one to try.

One another not the Surefire 60 and 100's work great in all my other M4's

Will the VLTOR lowers accept SF and PMags without issues?

From what I've seen, the VLTOR lower is just a normal forged lower with a large mag release button.

Sort of off topic but are the Vltor lowers still being produced? I can not recall the last time I saw one for sale.

After thought

Im pleased with the VLTOR lower, however, I have discovered that like any one piece purchase you the consumer get what they sell, regardless if it meets your standards.

It's true that it's VLTOR and overall Im very happy.

Yet Im back to ground up builds as some parts chosen by VLTOR just arent what I want in a rifle.

Ive had to change out the trigger the grip, Buffer and spring, add other parts that I find exceptable. By the time you do this you may aswell have built a ground up rifle.

The Noveske Gen II lower is great looking. I'm thinking about using it to build my first SBR, but if there are some mag compatibility issues (and who knows what else), I'm reconsidering and may get something a bit more standard.

Well the only problem I'm aware of is with the surefire mags so youd need to decide if thats important to u. Im sure noveske is aware of the issue so i wonder if that will translate into a redesign down the road.

I asked Noveske already and they said, No.

The Noveske Gen II does not have any MIL approved mag compatibility problems it works with all MIL approved mags

Surefire might have some lower compatibility problems with their new mags tho
