Seeking info on muzzle flash: AR vs. shotgun

I am seeking info on the relative size and color (white, yellow, orange, or red)of muzzle flash under low light conditions with various commonly used fighting loads in .223/5.56mm 16" barreled ARs (with A2 flash suppressor preferably)and in 12 gauge 18-20" barreled shotguns. Am interested in comparisons; images would be useful but not necessary.

Did a search here but was unsuccessful in finding any info on this.

Mods, if this is in the wrong forum please move it.

Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid that someone would have to do a one-on-one comparison with specific barrel lengths, specific loads and specific flash hiders/muzzle devices.

We held regular practice sessions once a week from the beginning of the year until about mid-April, at which point our range converts the time slot to use for a regular match.

We set it up so that members of our group could practice that week's course with any firearm that is permitted to be shot on that range; so handgun, shotguns and pistol caliber carbines were allowed.

Before daylight savings time, low light was something that we had to contend with. The occasional shotgun would be used. Muzzle flash was generally yellow/white and about fist sized from one 18" 870 that was used. I don't know what ammunition was in the gun.
This was visible in reduced light, before it became particularly dark.
Other shotguns were longer barreled but still showed yellow flash (just less of it) going into twilight.

I'd say it depends on the ammo you use in the AR whether it produces more or less muzzle signature than the shotgun.
