    Gas Rings Issue

Okay, my wife is right and I'm an idiot and I'm sure this question is here somewhere but I'm a computer illeterate.
Question is, my bolt doesn't pass the gas rings test in that it will collapse on itself when stood upright in the carrier. BUT, thus far, almost 2,000 rounds, my carbine has not malfunctioned once.
Am I good to go with current rings or should I change? Note: It does pass the "hold it upside down and it shouldn't fall out test" that I read about somewhere.....

A few carbines in my work unit would not pass the test and they ran fine.

Unless you are having problems with the rifle, I would not worry about it.

If it isn't short stroking, why worry about it?

That said, gas rings are inexpensive.

I won't run rings like that in any gun. Replace them if you can spare the extra 5 minutes it takes.

Normally I wouldn't worry about it since it works fine (and you would know if it wasn't), but that might be the cheapest and easiest fix that can be done so might as well do it.

If I recall, the test in the manual is that, with the carrier help vertical and the bolt pointing upward, the bolt should not slide back into the carrier.

Rings are so cheap and easy to replace, if I had any question as to how worn they were, I would go ahead and install new replacement rings. Just order a set or two and don't sweat the delivery time

The test he is referring to is an alternate one that is taught by Colt and others.

I teach both methods in my class.

My 12.5" SBR rings were burned out and I hadn't noticed, probably because I was shooting suppressed and my guess is that the additional backpressure was helping it along. Once I discovered it I changed them.

Is it worth not changing them?

No problems with one of my new builds. Did a typical system check and found some burned out rings at the 1200 round mark. Easy to replace so at least check them. Bottom row is the new set that went in about a year ago.

Drop this kit in and leave out the O ring. Not needed.
