Slings and Mounting Options

Hi guys, I have a little problem. We tried to install a couple of TLR 1 tac lights on the bottom rail of our surplus AR15. The traditional sling is in the way. I'd like to have the sling still be usable for stablizing the weapon for offhand shooting. We installed the CAA 6 position stock on both rifles as well. What is out there for slings and mounts that would help? I'm not an armorer so we need to keep things simple. Anyone have any ideas?

You need a front sling adapter for the side of the barrel and a good 2-point sling.

Blue Force Gear makes a good sling.

What is the intended use for your AR's?

- If you want to lock in with the sling and shoot for sub-MOA then yes it will pull some.
- If your using it as a fighting rifle then it is not much of an issue. You will still be on target; your group size will just not be as tight.

Adding lights, VFG's and other stuff to the rails will also effect the zero and how the rifle shoots.

Thanks for the updated pic. It's just a patrol rifle, I like that option I'm just not sure the chief will go for it. He's hard to deal with sometimes.

All .mil issued M4's come with the side-sling attachment.
I also think that all the Colt M4's & StagArms come with it also.
For an LE patrol rifle you will be fine with this set up. Basic and simple.

If you want a low cost, no nonsense, versatile sling attachment/method... Look at the IDF sling. It's simple, 2 point, and functional like a tac sling. I run them on all 5 of my rifles.

(you can move the attachment point of the sling with no additional hardware.)

I think we are going to try to go with the side mount. Chief's solution for now is to mount the flashlight and remove the sling.

If anyone is interested, one of my co-workers told me about a company that his FN-303 instructor works for. Urban ERT Slings They have some interesting slings and attachment ideas. All of their stuff is made in the US as well.

I was thinking that if they leave the sling on the bottom and mounted their lights on the left side of the rail...

You can hold the handguard in a standard grip and activate the light with your left thumb.

That would be much wiser than ditching the sling.

Why not mount both the sling and light on the rail?

Light forward at 9:00, and sling rearward at 9:00.

Also I think the Vickers Victory sling s about the best bang for the buck sling wise available for those on a budget!

*old pic* I don't run the Reflex anymore.

That's my set-up with a light but most of the time I run the carbine without a light.
