what will meet my needs best?

..hi, i am trying to figure out which way to go w/ a build i'm planning for my winter break. i like the looks of an SPR w/ 18" barrel; however, i think it is more than i need & a more manageable/moveable rifle RECCE w/ 16" barrel would suit me best.

my needs: i am going prairie dog hunting next year w/ my father so that got me going w/ the project & i want something that will make that an enjoyable experience. additionally, the range where i shoot mostly is 250-275m max.

my desire: i want a rifle that is precise for the distances i'll be shooting; yet, a versatile platform for the future & easy to move/deploy compared to the WW2 era rifles i currently shoot.. Enfield 303, M1 Garand, M14, Mosin-Nagant, 1903A3, 8mm Mauser.

many thanks!

Not knowing how much you want to spend I would at the Noveske 16.1" RECON upper (high end) or something custom built.

Like you my Recon build was just what I was looking for when I built my rifle. Accurate and still handy. White Oak Recon barrel set in my KAC upper and lower. Larue 13" RAS with a Troy front BUIS and Matech on back. Came with its matched bolt and added a CMT carrier. It has a Leupold 1.5-5x20 Mark 4 MR/T in Larue mount. Went out yesterday and had two groups at .70" and .61" at 100yds with Hornady TAP. Also can hold at 1" with XM193. Have a Harris Bipod and a Magpul CTR stock on it now. Need to update my pics sorry. Denny at Dennys guns took care of the parts for me. One of the greatest things about this rifle is that it is no longer than a standard M-4 with a 16" barrel and can shoot under an inch at 100yds. The scope is great for close ranges but has enough magnification for long range work.
