Quick Range report Charles Daly M4LE
I finally got the Troy BUIS I had wanted for the rifle, I went to the range last Sunday with some ammo I had,(not as much as I thought I had) All my reloads, I had 100rnds of 60gr Serria Hp's with a suitable dose of Varget, and some 55gr loads 2 partical boxes 55gr FNJ's and some 55Gr serria SP'sloaded with WC846.(surplus powder) Target was set out at 50 yds, Sight in was done with the 60gr load, took about 10-12rnds I was using a 8" shoot n see target. and small aperture. Once I was happy with sight in, I shot for group, 10rnds I managed to get all 10 in the 10 ring with 2 hitting the bull (10 rings is 1 1/2" in dia) Switching to the 55gr loads,(20 rnds total for group) they shot well, but to the right an 1 1/2" about 1'o clock, with a little vertical stringing, I also tried the 60gr load at a milk jug at 168 yds by my range finder, 20 rnds offhand, I did'nt recover the jug to see how many times I hit it, but from what I could see through my spotting scope I could make out numerous holes in the jug that weren't there before. To get the rifle on target I did have to use a little more left windage than I had hoped for,The 55gr loads required more left windage than the 60gr bullets did by about 4 clicks. The windage is now between the first and second line left of center I'm thinking it could very easily be me, or very possibly the 55gr loads or both.. Clearly this rifle prefers the heavier bullets. The trigger out of the box had some creep leading up to a decent letoff, that improved considerably it's now very manageable with just a little creep and decent letoff,(I'm guessing here, but I figure about #5) I had no failures of any kind, it ran well out of the box. I also tried using the large aperture as well, but kept shooting low, what kind of sight picture should I be using?? I usually never used the large aperture with my other AR so,I'm not real sure, I need to learn how to use this... Well, I will have to load up some more ammo to get a more conclusive idea of what this rifle will do, Besides, I really need the practice........
