M4 vs. M5 carbine

Does anyone know if there is a difference between an M4 and an M5 Carbine?

The Colt M5 (AKA LE1020) is thier little know Gas Piston Design, I think it originated at Diemaco, I could be wrong on that.

Been out a while, looks like they repackaged it for this years AUSA.

Per Sabre specifications, the M5 is their designation for the midlength gas block placement.

Colt's M5 is not the LE1020, very different gun- The M5 has a different rail (it's not monolithic like the LE1020), different barrel attachment system, adjustable rate buffer, among other things...

I wish Colt would put it out. It would be nice to have a top-tier alternative to the HK416.

When I did the colt armorer recert last year, the instructor said "I don't know why they advertise them, we don't have one built in the inventory that is ready for sale (he wasn't counting the prototype/demo guns) and they don't have any plans or orders right now to sell them"

I don't know why Colt didn't come out with this years ago. It would have been a blessing to our soldiers, but it was probably cheaper and profitable for them to continue push and market the DI M4's to the military.
