AR Parts prone to breakage

With the looming worrys about a Ban whats AR parts does one need to stock up on besides mags and ammo. I guess im trying to ask whats parts are prone to breakage? Im pretty sure in assuming if you have a good quality AR the list will be much smaller.. How about some answers from the regular shooters on this forum!

P.S. One more thing during the Clinton AWB could people buy spare parts for the preban AR's they had from the Factory? Or where you stricktly stuck with old parts from individuals?

During the Clinton AWB parts were not restricted. The only issue was standard capacity and hi capacity magazines and the actual weapons themselves. Since we have no idea what a future ban would look like, it's only speculation. If it were me I would slowly start getting enough parts to rebuild a lower, extra buffers/ springs, and the various roll pins needed. Then again I have alot of this stuff already so I won't frenzied into getting stuff.

Don't forget the proper tools and tech manuals as well to do it right.

I would be as concerned with commonly lost parts as broken ones. Firing pin retaining pins, extractor pins and the like are easily misplaced. I try to keep one complete lower parts set and extras of anything that breaks or slips through the cracks.

Would all Lower Receiver Parts Kit's be the same or would you need to get one from the maker or your weapon? I found at least 3different brands of kits on Midway USA.......Around 56-60 bucks is not bad......

You could repair/replace preban featured uppers, providing they were a complete firearms before the ban took effect.
Now let me say, being from Illinois, the home of Sheik Osama, one nutty thing the Illinois retards have been trying to ban is what they call, "assault weapon attachments". Maybe that would be a complete upper assembly.

Komplicated! Komplex! Kommunist!

Or maybe they are simply referring to things like vertical grips, lights, optics, etc... You know, things like barrel shrouds that really make no difference in the functioning of a firearm but which make them look all scary.

Basically anything that's prone to wear or easy to lose. I'd suggest keeping the following on hand:

Firing Pin Retaining Pin (several)
Extractor Pin (several)
Extractor
Extractor Spring (several)
ES Inserts
Firing Pin
Bolt Cam Pin
Gas Rings
Hammer Spring
Trigger Spring
Disconnector
Disconnector Spring
Hammer/Trigger Pin (sev)
Buttstock Screw
Takedown Pin
Takedown Pin Spring (sev)
TD Spring Detent (sev)
Front Sight Post
Charging Handle
Gas Tube
Gas Tube Pin (sev)

Some people advocate keeping a complete BCG as a spare; it's kind of expensive but it can't hurt. Also if I were running a large pin Colt, I would definitely have a spare hammer, trigger, disconnector and pins.

I would also keep some JB Weld on hand to make emergency repairs to the lower receiver - to repair chips, cracks, or if the metal around the buffer detent chips out - something that I have seen happen.

Generally speaking, if I am going away from the shop my spare parts are just a complete BCG.

99% of AR15 problems seem to be in the BCG.

Loose gas key, worn gas ring, worn extractor, worn ext spring, broken bolt. etc.

I would buy at LEAST 400 Lower parts kits and 400 BCGs for every gun I own or plan to ever own!

Panic is completely appropriate at this time.
