M 16 BCG

As a newcommer to this information packed forum, I have to say I do indeed feel privilaged to be here. The knowledge put forth by you, the respondents, is astounding. I think I understand the basic differences between "Green label & Blue label" Colts. I need to know what the cutout at the bottom of the BC on current "Blue box" Colts is for and what is this in relation to the "block" at the rear pin area of the receiver? Will the BCG from my 6920 work in a Match Target? The 6920 BCG is basically M-16 is it not?

The 6920 BCG is indeed an M16 BCG. It should work fine in the Match Target lower. The Colt lowers that would be incompatible would be the ones with the pinned block the protrudes above the receiver. I don't think match targets have the BLOCK. At least mine didn't.

Thank you for that information. I am still confused as to why Colt cut out the bottom portion of the BC unlike that of an M-16 BC. My Match Target does not have the block, as described. Can anyone post a picture of a Colt lower that shows this "block"?

"Green Label" Colts bring an inflated price when sold on Gunbroker and the sellers always site the unblocked receiver as one of the features a prospective buyer cannot live without! I still need some clarification! If I'm on track, I can install a mil-standard BCG and an "H" buffer (to replace the plastic one) and this Match Target will jump in quality, as far as 1/9 twist rifles go?????

Thanks,
Walter

Having a "cut" carrier makes the part incompatible with a drop in auto sear or some sort of illegal conversion that would make the gun fire full auto.

All AR lowers have some sort of material that prevents a simple drill job to install an auto sear. The Blocked Colt lowers are just an extra pain in the ass. But if you never swapped out carriers it wouldn't really be an issue.

You can install a standard bolt carrier in the gun. But if it's a factory rifle, I would leave the original components alone. An H buffer is an item that works in a collapsible stock. If the gun you are referring to has a fixed rifle stock, an H buffer would not work in it. But you would indeed want to replace the plastic buffer with a real rifle buffer. In other words leave the bolt group alone, but get rid of the plastic buffer. Those buffers break.
