Need advice and/or reassurance SBR LMT, Noveske?
Hey Guys,
This is my first post on this forum. I have gathered quite a bit of info from reading and am hoping I can share some of my knowledge and experience as well in the future. A little about me quick, I work in LE on patrol and have the added responsibilities of being a FTO, Use of Force Instructor, Firearms Instructor (handgun/shotgun/rifle/sub), and Armorer. Due to my position I get to play with a lot of stuff and am a test/evaluator for a few companies that make lights and weapon accessories. I have a couple of reviews planned that I will post on here soon , once I get settled. I like shooting, both guns and cameras. If there is a hobby that is expensive, I probably like it or will like it. As my wife says, I like to collect price tags, if it has a price tag (especially a large one) I want to buy it.
Anyways, I would like your feedback, advice, and/or reassurance. I am building a SBR AR. I am planning on using this at work and possibly on the tac team. I already have a few 16" ARs which work great but now want something different both for work and for my collection. Every AR collection needs at least one SBR. I know the ballistic disadvantages of an AR SBR but I think the trade offs and advantages are worth it in some situations.
I already have a lower that I am going to use, one of Sully's SLR lowers, and am leaning towards either a CRT stock or a sully stock. I like KISS. Here is what I looked at:
LMT MRP 12 Piston Upper
LMT MRP 10.5 DI Upper
Noveske Light N4 Upper (both their rail system or VLTOR VIS)
And a few of the common others (RRA, DPMS, CMMG, Etc)
I am planning on using an optic either an Aimpoint or EOTech, I have both laying around, and adding a light, sling, maybe a laser, and BUIS's.
I ordered a Noveske N4 Light upper with their rail system. I liked the reliability I have heard about Noveske and it came with everything including BUIS. Will I be happy, I know their quality is top notch, especially the barrels, but should I look at the LMTs (or others) more and is their (or any other) piston system worth it in an SBR. I like the narrower rails on the fore end if that makes sense. I have shot the DPMS and YHM and they are huge in diameter. I will probably add a VFG though. My most needed feature is just reliability, if I bring a rifle to work my life or someone else's may rely on it so it has to work.
Thanks for all your feedback and will be sure to post pics when I get it up and running. Look forward to getting to know some of you and being around. Also if there are any MN shooters here give me a shout.

When you say you ordered the Noveske, is that the 10.5" N4?

I ended up ordering a Noveske N4 Light Shorty 10.5 upper. I guess my question is still the ones above, should I look at something else while I still have time to change my order or order something else with another company, LMT etc.

I think the Noveske will be quite fine, sir. If for some weird reason it isn't, John will take care of you.

I can vouch for the LMT DI MRP. Mine has run like a sewing machine. It's still a production gun though. The Noveske is simply top notch and it shows. John has the most accurate chrome barrel I have ever shot. All the reliability and match accuracy. Stick with the Noveske.

Well good. I have also been using the search function and have heard nothing but outstanding things with Noveske. I am going to stick with my order. Thanks for the feedback and I will definitely post some pics when I get it.
Thanks again!
