Robinson M96 joins the family. (Pics inside)

I decided I wanted an M96 after shooting Robarms test gun. 3 weeks later, I have one.

I still need to add ambi bolt release, flash hider and have it inspected by Robinson for upgrade needs, but otherwise, I think these are freaking cool guns. Finding a deal on one is tough. They are between 1600 and 2500 on Gunbroker.

They are good looking guns too. Very clean lines. I plan on keeping it kiss. No lights, rails or optics on this one.

As far as old school stamped steel guns, I think only the SIG 551 looks better

I bought my M96 for about $1400 even back in 2002. I liked the rifle, but I decided that I prefered something lighter and opted for a Colt M4. I sold it in 2006 after I bought my XCR. Keep in mind that it is a .223 chambering, so military spec NATO ammo will get jammed in the chamber. Been there, done that and had to use a mallet to pound the charging handle to get the cartridge extracted.

I personally am not qualified to answer that question. Hopefully someone can chime in and provide clarity here.

Marcus said he had issues. However when I was flogging Robinsons Demo/T&E M96 and I was using LC M855 with NATO neadstamp and it was working fine and I easily gave it a few hundred rounds worth.

I had to do a double take, I thought it was a Stoner. Most Nam Vets would probably think so. Good looking weapon. Good score!

Nice looking rifle. I'm hoping to add one to my inventory.
Did you get my PM regarding my call to Robinson?

I saw your PM. And what you heard is what Alex said to me personally when I was last onsite

He has some really cool plans for the M96. I hope they are all realized. Robarm is up to their eyeballs in XCR orders so it will be interesting to see how the M96 is brought back and when

I thought that was a Stoner as well when I saw it.

It's good that we both got the same info. Makes me hopeful that they will produce the rifle again.

The mag release looks like it's a little too far forward from the pics. How is it in practice?

On mine I can get about half of the tip of my finger on it. Its enough to release it, but by comparison, the mag release starts about where my AR's mag release ends.

VB: I guess this means you managed to find one and your interest in mine has waned?

Actually, they look very much like a 63A, but in operation, much closer to a Beretta AR70.

Wow, I love it.

Maybe later this year I will be able to spring for one.

Ha! Yeah, I am out of the market. Terra (Robarm) text me the other night saying there was an M96 for sale in Provo about 25 minutes away. I was at the guy's door at 10am the next day.

And the mag release works the same for me. My finger tip reaches it enough where I dont need to shift my grip.

It's an extended mag release. If it was just a button like the SIG 556 I wouldn't be able to reach it.

On a side note, speaking of the Stoner 63, think of how far progressed our weapon systems would have been had we embraced the multi-role, common receiver, modularity and parts interchangeability offered by the Stoner 63 forty years ago. The Stoner 63 was clearly ahead of it's time; perfectly illustrated by our coming full circle with the SCAR and IAR initiatives.
