effective range of 11.5" rifle

I am considering the purchase of a POF-USa uppper with an 11.5" barrel. Does anyone know what is the maximum effective range of a rifle with this barrel length?

I thought one of the members here who was recently back from the sandbox said he whacked a tango @~400yds with a 10.5" SBR.

jharpphoto,

Are you referring to terminal performance, exterior ballistic performance and accuracy, hard target effects? With what ammunition? What optics? There are several variables you have not specified in order to get a useful answer...

I think I also remember a report recently by someone with field experience who said they were able to engage targets at something like 300 - 400 meters.

Your definition of effective must first be know in order to answer the question. Hitting a target 300 - 400 - 600 yds is one thing. Having good terminal effects on a flesh and blood target (Killing Power) is another.

So which is it.....banging a gong or taking out a tango?
