Front sight post question.

i just tried sighting in my AR-15 yeturday and it's shooting over a foot high at 100 yards. Tried to adjust the front sight but not sure how much threads it has left. It's a TROY FRONT FOLDING BATTLESIGHT - M4 STYLE. I'm concerned with turning the sight too much and having it come out. The sight came a my gun when I bought it and has not been adjusted until now the gun is brand new. Any advice qould be much appreciated as this was my first time using these type of sights.

the first thing that comes to mind is that you might have the wrong front sight base.

you should have an "F" marked FSB to work with a flatttop upper and folding BUIS. however, there are a number of manfucturers out there that ship flattop ARs with regular FSBs (that are meant to be used with a fixed carry handle).

the "F" marked FSB is a bit taller...so, if you don't have one, you have to dial the front sight post very high to make up for the shorter FSB.

check your FSB for an "F". what brand AR do you have?

Is it mounted on a forearm rail or a gas block? The PDF link you have shows it mounted on a forearm. If you have it on a gas block then it may be to low.

A friend had a rifle with a problem similar to yours. Turned out the barrel angle needed reset in the upper receiver, if I remember correctly. After that it shot great.

I turned it a few more revolutions and it seems to be fine i was concerned that the front sight post itself was going to run out of threads. The gun is a Noveske and im going to the rangesoon to see if it is still having problems hoiting too high.
