Exclamation Glad I'm not this guy's neighbor

So you're watching TV on a Fri evening and your idiot neighbor decides to
"re-decorate" your adjoining apartment wall. Sure would have been nice if he was a little more careful, those neighbors are lucky!

Roseville man mistakenly shoots three neighbors, cops say

Santiago Esparza / The Detroit News

ROSEVILLE -- A 27-year-old man will be arraigned Monday after a shotgun he was handling fired and wounded three people watching television in an adjacent apartment, Roseville police said.

The man, who was unfamiliar with firearms, is charged in an arrest warrant with three counts of careless discharge of a weapon causing injury and one count of careless discharge of a weapon causing damage, according to police. He was being held Saturday at the Macomb County Jail on $7,500 bond.

Investigators allege that he was handling a shotgun at 8 p.m. Friday in his apartment on the 30500 block of Sandhurst when the buckshot from the shotgun ripped through a wall and hit the three neighbors.

Two men were hit in the head and face and a woman in the upper portion of one of her legs, police said. The victims were transported to Mount Clemens General Hospital and were listed in temporary serious condition, according to the release.

The man was arrested without incident at his apartment and the shotgun was recovered, police said.

His arraignment will be at 1 p.m. Monday in 39 District Court in Roseville.

So much for the old, "A shotgun is the best home defense weapon because it won't penetrate a wall and hurt someone on the other side," myth.

maybe the adage holds true as the neighbors were wounded, not killed. A .223 or .308 to the head and face might be more lethal.

A shotgun is the best home defense weapon because engagement ranges will rarely exceed 15yrds, and at that range there really isn't anything better at shooting and killing(or incapacitating) with as few shots as possible one or more intruders. For indoor use, other than a SMG, there isn't a better weapon system for that purpose.

I disagree. A 16" AR with it's Surefire will suffice anytime for me.

Before this gets into "what is the best self defense weapon at home" debate, you have to give the shotgun credit - one "unaimed" shot got 3 of them.
