If I had an extra $20K lying around, and I was debt free, I would invest most of it.

I agree. Right now isn't a good time to be investing in firearms. It's a great time to sell them but not buy.
That 20K could be used for all the great deals there are in the stock market right now.

Gold, silver, ammo, rifles, FULL-capacity mags - BEST investments in America right now. As Al Cervix would say, "anything else, is a popcorn fart" THESE days...

As Warren Buffett says "If you wait for birds, spring will be over." I would only buy weapons and accessories that I was planning on using, and then stocking a little ammo. Aside from that, now is, in fact, the time for investing.

I would also add to that land, and some in the market. What is that saying..."when there is blood in the streets buy!"

If this is from a pure collection/potential value standpoint, I guess I'd go as follows
1 Colt 6920 (for sale on SGCUSA.com right now)
1 Colt 6940 (can order from impact, but at a super premium price)
Any non-krink Arsenal AK47/74 (backorder from impact--if you can order a milled receiver, even better, but I didn't see one in the list)
1 LWRC M6--any variant (for sale on SGCUSA.com right now)
1 Steyr AUG A3 (just starting to become available)
1 Benelli M4 (Black with coll. stock-unobtanium)
1 Armalite Super SASS (unobtanium)
1 Remington M24A3 full kit (wait list is 6 months)
Other alternatives
Springfield Whitefeather Edition M1A (unobtanium)
If you plan on blasting, I'd make a slightly different list.

Even if there is a new ban, there's no guarantee that it will be like the previous federal AWB and firearms will be grandfathered. And even if firearms are grandfathered, there's no guarantee that firearms will be legally transferable to other people. It could be like California's AWB where you can keep what you have but you can't sell anything.

I'd really hate to see what would happen if they didn't grandfather.
I can see a California style situation--nationwide. But if they went further--kind of like what NY is trying to do with .50BMG--that would probably cross too many lines with people.
(NY wants to force .50BMG owners to "Turn-in" the weapons for "Fair" market value.) There was an article under the NRA legislation alert page last week. Not sure what became of it.

No AWB on the radar screen, at all:

No AWB = no need to pay stupid prices and hoard a lifetime supply.
Blackgunowners.org has the best summary of the situation that I have seen yet:
www.blackgunowners.org
Go to "Politics" then click on "First 100 days : Assault Weapons Ban".
Won't hurt to read the whole thing once-- then the last 3/4's or so again.

No, but IMO buying firearms as "investments" is stupid, especially if they'll only significantly increase in value if certain laws are passed. If you're buying them for your own use, not as investments, that's different.

I'd look for an M107 instead of another 82A1
