HK45 quick review compared to 220combat **pics**

Just got my HK45 today. Put 58 rounds of Georgia Arms 230gr FMJ through it on the way home (at a range, no road rage). I have to say, I have absolutely no regrets about selling my 1911 (Kimber custom II black). This gun with the larger back strap feels like it was made for my hands. If feels better than any other hand gun I have held. I shot it well and the SA trigger is absolutely great. I didn’t experience any of the trigger guard biting into my hand that some shooters have, lucky I guess. I really like the o-ring barrel. I can feel the o-ring catching the inside of the slide when I slowly let the gun go into battery. I can also feel it when field stripping the gun. Very tight lock up with no play at all. I like the sights a lot. When I took it out of the box I shot it with a led light for a few seconds and the sights lit up bright. For normal everyday shooting they are excellent. I will likely put Heine straight eights on them when I recover from the financial hit from the gun.

I already have a Sig 220 Combat so I now have Sig and H&K’s offering for the military pistol program. Love my Sig but right now the HK45 takes the cake. Can’t wait to put a ton of rounds through this gun.

Pictures for your viewing pleasure:

I want one of those really bad. When they first announced the production of that gun, I thought it was the ugliest thing I have ever seen. But, once I held one in my hands, I instantly fell in love with the gun. It just felt like it belonged there.

Unfortunately, I cannot justify buying one right now. If I did get one, it would at most, be a nightstand gun. I would still probably use my Glock 23 as my daily carry. Anyway, it's my wife's turn to buy a new gun.

That is a nice comparison you did with the Sig 220. I would like to see someone do a comparison between the HK45 and the Glock 21sf.

I have been abusing mine for well over a year. The gun is a tank. Best .45 to have if you are suddenly dropped into a road-warrior movie. LOL. Fantastic gun.

The HK 45 is one badass pistol, built like a truck and a sweet grip too!

Okay, I have a couple of questions. Sorry if they sound stupid, but I'm not much of an HK guy. So my knowledge is limited.

I see that the HK 45 is listed everywhere with a 10 round magazine. Is that the standard capacity for this HK45? Or are these ban compliant mags.

Also, how many mags typically come with the gun? And how much are people finding spare mags for?

HK45 comes with 2 standard 10rd mags....

Spare mags range from $50-75.....

But if you get the USP in .45 you can get 10rd mags for $20-25 easily and standard 12rdrs for $50

I can't comment on the .45's. Never a fan of the calibre, but to each his own. I am a .40S&W guy, we all have our faults. That said, I have owned the following in .40S&W.

The USP full-size in DA/SA (traded out)
the P229 in DA/SA and DAO (still have)
the HK USPc LEM (still have)
and the HK P2000SK LEM (daily carry)

I have also been issued at one time or another the P229 DA/SA in .357SIG and the P229DAK and the HK USPc LEM in .40S&W.

I used to love SIG's. The cold hard truth is that they have lost their way and other manufacturers have passed them by. I even see S&W stealing a lot of their LE sales in the near future. I was looking forward to the P250 after having handled a European spec model several years ago but SIG has truly screwed the pooch with the U.S. version. WTF? Interchangeable frames built around a trigger pack with a serial number. I still have to buy another slide and frame if I want a full size or mid and a sub compact combo. For the $$ might as well buy two pistols anyway. Not to mention, SIG locked themselves out of their six largest LE markets with this "clever" trigger group idea. A great idea that is going to cost them. If they don't get a respectable polymer pistol soon they are done in the LE market; their competitors all have them beat.

HK has some great products going. I haven't seen the new P45 yet but am anxious to do so. I am really intrigued bt the P30 long-slide. Left handed, right handed; HK has you covered with the new pistols. I have high round counts (155gr) through my P2000SK and my USPc and have NEVER had a malfunction with either of them. The HK's are built for LE and will serve anyone well.

Does HK have some issues? Sure, their prices need work, as does their customer service but the quality product helps make up for that.
