Question Scope Mounting Suggestions

Hi;

I am a newby here. I have a Colt AR-15 Sporter 2 with the carrying handle. Right now I have an ACOG TL01 4 X 32 Day Scope mounted on top of the handle. I was able to zero it in at 100yds., although it seats pretty high. I do really want to have a red dot scope on that rifle together with an optical scope. There is a Docter Red Dot that can be piggy backed on top of my ACOG, but everybody tells it's going to be really high to properly zero it in.

I started to look at Elcan Specter DR, but the salesman told me that that scope is designed for a flat mount and wouldn't go on top of the carrying handle.

For anyone who can appreciate the problem - any suggestions?

Buy a new upper receiver.
Seriously.
They are only like $100. Get a decent AR plumber to take care of the barrel/HG swap for you, it won't be much and it will save you tons of hassle.

If you do not, the height of the optic will force you to use "chin weld" and a MRD on top of the carry-handle mounted ACOG will be virtually unusable.

Scope Mounting Suggestions

Thanks for your reply. That sounds like a viable option. Any idea where I can get upper receivers (in either .223 or 7.62 x 39) in Canada? My understanding is that once I've done that, the height of either ACOG with piggybacked MRD or the Elcan scopes won't be a problem anymore?
