Daniel Defense Omega X 12FSP
What is the target market for this new rail? In comparing it to the Lite Rail 12 FSP, the only difference is that it comes in multiple pieces vs. one with the Lite Rail. Since it uses a special barrel nut like the Lite Rail, there is no installation advantage.
Is there another unique feature that differentiates the Omega X from the Lite Rail?

The Omega X has built in QD sockets.

Not really. Apparently DD thinks that the Omega X type rails have some kind of benefit. There is hearsay about a Omega X 7.0 rail in development.
I don't understand why you would want a 2-piece rail over a 1-piece when the installation process is the same. I'm just as confused as you are about the intent of these rails.

One thing to note about the omegas is the lock up mechanism is actually machined into the rail where the Lite rail lock up flange is machined separately, then spot welded in place. I'm not sure what method is better from a machining/labor standpoint. Omega rails run a little skinnier than Lite rails if I recall correctly.

The Omega X 12.0 FSP has a lot of different features. Some of which have already been mentioned, but I will run through all of them really quick. It s a 2 piece free float rail system that does require initial gunsmithing to install. This seems the be the biggest concern so I will touch on why we decided this was a good idea. A lot of shooters want to be able to remove their rail systems to perform maintenence without completely disassembling their upper. Not to discredit the quality and workmanship of our AR15 Lite Rail 12.0 FSP, but if the rail system needs to be taken off for whatever reason, the front sight base will have to be unpinned from the barrel. With the Omega X 12.0 FSP, removal is as easy as removing the attachment screws that secure the upper and lower halves together and loosening the set screws that secure the rail system to the barrel nut.
Other key features of the Omega X that need not go unmentioned are its uninterrupted top rail, Integrated Sling Swivel Attachment Points, and its free float design.

Thanks for the update Joe! Is the Omega X attachment method is as strong as the Lite Rail?

So can this rail be added and removed from an upper that already has a pinned muzzle device?

Wow, one of the premier AR manufacturers responds to a question on this forum. How cool is that? Crap, now I guess I'll have to buy one of DD's rifles!
Thanks for the cogent response, Joe.

For the initial installation, the barrel and FSB will need to be removed to allow for the use of the DD barrel nut. After that, the rails can be removed at anytime without removing the barrel or FSB.

I just saw the new omega X 7.0 rails up on the DD website? Can anyone that already owns the 12.0 FSP comment on how rigid the attachment method between the barrel nut and rail is? Does it have any play?

Are the X rails "fatter" (diameter wise) than the regular omega rail?

Figured that i would ask here instead of starting another thread but does anyone have any idea if Daniel Defense plans to offer an Lite rail FSP for mid length gas systems?
I am in need of one. I would try calling and asking but my phone time is very limited here. Thanks in advance.
