Most guys that run ACOG's or any magnified optic are going to be running a flip up iron. Take a look at Troy, Magpul, or the KAC 300 meter ones. Pretty much anything you can find at Larue, Bravo Company, or G&R Tactical will be good to go.

I don't have an acog, but I've seen a mount that allows you to mount a holographic sight on top of the acog. I know, it sounds redundant and stupid, but it will give you something to think about.

Buis for a 6920 with an ACOG

Take a look at the Troy Buis.

Troy Industries, Inc. Folding Battle Sights are the strongest and lowest profile Back Up Iron Sight available for the M4, M16, and SR25

For years (95-04') I ran a KAC 300m behind my TA01NSN or M68. Never had a problem using the BUIS with the optics. Last few years been using a ARMS #40L behind my TA01NSN (w/ JPoint mounted above) Last years setup

04-06' You would have to dismount the ACOG to use the BUIS or shift line of sight to irons on top of ACOG

I realize that it's always good to be prepared, but has anyone under normal operating conditions ever actually seen an ACOG fail?

I use an MI ERS below mine. Barely clears but all that really matters is that it does clear. I should also add that the only reason it barely clears is due to the piggyback mount I have on it. Otherwise it'd be just fine.

O hell yeah.

You'd be surprised at how many non-warfighters don't RTFM and maintain the O-rings under their adjuster caps (you can lube them with Chap-Stick, or replace them with silicone-impregnated black ones!), for example, or leave the caps off completely. They go through one significant elevation change, and end up with their nitrogen purge voided and water vapor inside, fogging everything up. Dippo blames Trijicon, not realizing that that finger he's pointing has three others on the same hand pointing right back at his dumb ass.

In the hands of the warfighter? Too. Many. Stories.... Can. Not. Decide.

Everything breaks, under the right conditions. Adamantium is a Marvel Comic myth metal.

Hell, everything burns, under the right conditions....

Hmmm that makes me a bit nervous to trade for the used TA47 I'm looking at.

If you decide to play Bubba and try to pound in a tent peg with it, you should be. So...don't do that!

However, if you treat it with the same respect as your rifle, you have nothing to worry about. The things're pretty damned tough. I've seen a couple of hundred basically destroyed from poor training, leadership issues in regard to maintenance, and just plain neglect. Nothing is indestructible.

I've also seen one dropped from a 3rd-story building in Rawah, Iraq, land smack-dab on the elevation adjuster, and end up with a .5MOA shift that was re-zeroed back to true. That same sight is being sent to Afghanistan this year, works fine. My own has seen 4+ years of abuse attenuated with proper maintenance, and it is still going strong. THAT is a sample size on one, I realize, but I've got a whole Corps of other, similar devices to draw on, as well.

Back to the topic of the thread, the goofiest thing you can do has nothing to do with which BUIS one gets, but with bothering to put one on while keeping the stock TA51 mount (or analogue thereof). So, get a quality throw-arm mount, or carry a multi-tool with you at all times while carting the gun around.

I use an ARMS #40L.

I find it interesting that my son wasn't issued a BUIS of any kind during his deployment to Iraq early last year. He was a gunner with a Marine CLB Security Co and went outside the wire in Al Anbar many times.

I wonder if they are they just saving money or issuing BUIS selectively based on mission.

Its my understanding that the USMC doesn't issue a BUIS as the carrying handle is to be kept by the Marine. The Army issues the MATECH BUIS and USSOCOM issues KAC BUIS.

That's right. MARSOC and similar get some, otherwise it's a unit or personal purchase, and certain QD mounts for the RCO were only approved within the last year.
