Saturday Trigger Time
Just wanted to share some pics and video of the trigger time I got in this morning with my son.
Wake up 0415, we departed the house at 0530 to ensure we would be the first to arrive. We still were not the first ones out though, someone actually camped out at our shooting spot. Luckily they were not at our favorite position!
Sun rise on the range.
Adding a bit more lube.
Verifying my zero.
Playing around with the 25m A2 qualification target. Only thing I qualify for is trading in my reading glasses prescription for full time glasses.
My son with his carbine.
Occasionally I’m allowed to shoot it...LOL.
Back at home the cleaning begins.
Wipe down and in the OMS/CLP she goes.
Lower cleaned.
Condition of the patches. Just CLP as a solvent this go around.
Bolt ready for reassembly.
All four food groups cleaned and ready for reassembly and functiuon check.
Done.
Now to get Jr. off his butt and get his weapon cleaned......

Looks like fun. Need to get some steel targets out further and really have some fun!
That said, I always appreciate seeing someone who is as crazy as I am about cleaning a rifle.

Good fun I think. BUT as a Glock person your cleaning habits scare me! If I can't shoot a couple of thousand rounds between cleanings I get twitchy.

Quib,
I have a stocking-stuffer suggestion for your Christmas Shopping.
Get your Boy a flat-top reciever.
Out on the great plains, a full-length AR really comes into it's own.

I don't care what you say, that is damn fine shooting. What an excellent way to spend some time with your son, bravo sir.

I have placed targets out farther over the years. The large hill in the background is about 300m midway up. But parts of this area have been closed down because of irresponsible shooters not using a sufficient back drop. A Sheriffs Deputy came by twice to check up on folks, so I was careful of where I placed my targets. There are also cattle that graze out here, that will wonder down range.

I don’t consider myself “crazy”, I was simply raised to take care of what I own, regardless of what it is. When it comes to equipment that your life could depend on, that makes it even more important. This philosophy I grew up with, was simply reinforced further when I joined the military.

I built that weapon for my son for his 13th birthday. He had a say-so in it’s construction since day one. I asked him on more than one occasion if he would prefer a flat-top upper, he declined every time. He enjoyed shooting my iron sighted weapons, and wanted his configured the same.

LOL...I get up at 0400 on work days, so getting up at 0415 was sleeping in.

Thank you Sir.
I truly enjoy range time with my favorite shooting partner. I just wish we could have gone out more often if it wasn’t for ammo availability and prices.

That was outstanding in so many respects.
And I clean my rifle everytime, too. Not crazy in the slightest.
My first AR was given to me by my father when I got back from my first tour in Iraq. A BM mforgery with an A2 upper receiver, I will keep it forever. Plus it runs like a champ.
I look back so fondly on the time I spent with my father. Although he is rather ill and my time with him is waning, I appreciate my time at the range with him even more, even if it only lasts half an hour. (must be feeling sentimental...)

I'm one of those obsessive-compulsive persons. I HAVE to clean my Sig every 5000 rounds, whether it needs it or not...
oh and btw Quib, outstanding!

Thanks Jason. And thanks for your service, from the entire Quib Family.
I get sentimental when I think about all the good times my son and I have had shooting together. He’s a senior this year, graduates next spring, and the mail box is filled daily with college prospects from all over the US.
When I left for basic my mother said someday I’ll understand what it feels like when your kids grow up and move out on their own. That day for me I feel is fast approaching.

Quib, good to see you out with your boy shooting. Mine will start here later this year or early next year. We're putting parts for his and my daughter's carbines together.

It's a great looking carbine. I've got a 723 clone that's a favorite - very similar to the one your son has, except mine has an A1/C7 upper.

My daughter is only 5 weeks old and has a G19 waiting for her. I'm building an AR for her and the wife is smiling and rolling her eyes at the same time. She agreed to let me build it but demands pink Magpul furniture........damn. One battle at a time.

Great stuff taking the boy out. That's always a good day.
My little guy is now 8 and still working with his Cricket. Really anxious to see the new S&W M15-22 as I think it will be light enough for him to shoot.
Where did you find the cleaning tray and screen? That's a great idea. I let the BCG soak in a tub while I clean the rifle, but that drip tray would make things a lot better.
