VTAC's new chest rigs-- mayflower?

You recently reported about the new VTAC chest rigs. Their fixed pouch version looks to be a Mayflower vest. The molle vest looks to be made by Mayflower, but I don't see it listed at their site.

Could you shed some light on these vests? It appears that only one is new, and designed by Mayflower, while the other one is the standard UW Mayflower vest.

Any update on when Mayflower is coming out with their lightweight plate carrier system?

Mayflower definitely seems to be the one to watch these days. I have one of their concealment cut armor carriers that is pretty nice.

I love the idea of having different chest rigs that mount directly to the carrier. I can have one rig for when I am driving, another as a "shooter", or wear just the vest when acting as a range safety officer, mortar attacks, etc.

I agree that Mayflower is a rising star. Quality kit and made out of 500D.

That's the one, but mine is all tan.

The chest piece can also be worn with just straps, which may not be something you need but I can make use of. I think this system can be very versatile, and the roles I see are:

soft armor only - worn concealed when working pistol matches/drills
soft armor with plates - worn "concealed" when working carbine matches/drills
soft armor with plates & load carriage - worn exposed for shoot-house classes
load carriage only - worn for classes with no shoot-house portion

I like that I can conceal (or "conceal" in the case of wearing it with plates as I'd likely have to adjust my shirt size) for use when I want protection from shooters but don't want to make an issue of the fact that I'm wearing armor, but I can use the same setup for exposed use when that doesn't matter. I also like that there is only one set of shoulder straps when using the load carriage with armor so that there aren't a lot of straps bunching up like there would be with separate load carriage and armor.

Rob, you're ideas are pretty much exactly what I thought of when I saw this thread.

It would be a great 'universal' system for work, including training, teaching, and working.

I'll definitely be looking into this further.

Thanks for the update. I would have thought that advertising it as "a VTAC exclusive from Mayflower" would be better than just "VTAC."

Now that I know it is a Mayflower, I will get the molle version for trial. I will probably throw a few 10 Speed pouches on it from Blue Force Gear for an ultra lightweight low pro rig.

I am using Paraclete concealment cut.

remember that the carrier size is made to match armor in that size. Medium carrier = medium soft concealment armor AND medium SAPI (which are 9.5" wide, not 10 or 10.5" like most other plates).

I like everything I've seen from Mayflower so far. My concern with the low-pro set up is the height of the rig when attached to the carrier. I like to wear my chest rigs high and don't know if I could do that with this setup

Asking how high you wear your chest rig i just asking for confusion, but if you would post a pic of where you ride your rig...I bet that we could help you out.

It might be lower than you're accustomed to wearing a chestrig, but very similar to where you would mount pouches on a RAV, RBAV, SOHPC, etc.. You wouldn't mount your M4 pouches up on your chest in a plate carrier, would you?? You can always raise it up in the chestrig configuration.

How does the weight of the ESAPIs compare to the boron carbide plates that Omega Global offers? Also, if anyone knows, how does the cost compare? I'm looking to start putting together a concealable setup for uniformed police patrol wear that will have some type of rifle-rated protection, so weight is critical.

FYI, I can wear my Mayflower rig AND my duty belt and am still able to access all the items on my belt. I wish I could say the same for my SWAT vest
