Tactical Pistol/Carbine Training in VA???
I have finally saved up enough money to buy a decent hand gun and enough ammo to start taking classes. Now I am looking for good places to take tatical classes in VA and/or NC. I am even willing to drive up to 8 hours for a very good class. I have looked at the threads on this forum for some of the instructors. I just dont know where is the best place to start taking classes. Any help is appreciated.

I'd suggest John Murphy ( local, most of his classes are in Culpeper) and www.vickerstactical.com Vickers Tactical ( semi-local classes are in South Hill Va). Keep an eye on the Magpul Dynamics site for local classes. I've yet to take a Pat Rogers class but know a lot of people who have. His site is www.eagtactical.com and he regularly has classes in VA actually there's one this weekend in Staunton VA. I also hear very good things about TigerSwan and Viking Tactics.

The VA/NC area is the hotbed of East Coast training. You should have no trouble finding a class with one of any number of highly regarded instructors.

Yeah there are many instructors, but I dont know which are good. Just as with anything there are good and bad. I just wanted some suggestions on good instuctors to start my training.
Since I am a new shooter I have no way to judge a good or bad instructor. That is why I asked for suggestions from experienced shooters.

TigerSwan is awesome. They have several classes coming up soon in the Fayetteville area. There's an Intro to Pistol in a couple of weeks.

Thanks
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their input into my question. I have found a couple places within a hours driving time where I can get good quality handgun training for a reasonable price.

There's a place in Fredericksburg VA called the Commonwealth Criminal Justice Academy. Long name I know, the guy's name is Tom Perrioni. His website http://commonwealthcriminaljusticeacademy.com/
He has a one day course that starts with the very basics, I mean very basics, I have seen some folks in there that didn't know how to break open the upper. But he does a real good job, and has a first class office and classroom.
The range is a few miles from his office and is on a 800 acre farm. It's a basic range but he makes up for it by shooting all steel. I like steel as I'm sure most do, you get that instant feedback.
He always has an AI, usually someone who has just came back from the sandbox, or as it was last time someone that was just getting ready to leave. They run drills according to the level of shooters. Not bad for 150.00, it's an all day event, I found it to be worth the money.

There are better choices in the area; Perroni simply isn't at the level of TS, Grey Group, EAG, Trident Concepts, or Blackwater.

6933,
Have you taken any of my training?
That is an odd statement" Perroni simply isn't at the level of TS, Grey Group, EAG, Trident Concepts, or Blackwater"
Since I worked for BW as an I/C Instructor. I will admit I'm nothing like TS, Grey Group, EAG, and Trident Concepts. However they are all GREAT Schools.
But the local Area VA State Police Tac Team, US DOE, US DOT, US. Army ASWG, DynCorp, Amtrak Police, etc, continue to send me students and pay their bills so maybe I'm at some level.
You can call me (540) 322-3000 or e-mail me ccjatraining@gmail.com if you have any questions about my training or credentials or you would like to take a class.

Tom (DCJS Instructor) Offers some very good classes. Many, if not all of his instructors are tier one operators and the instruction is first class. Highly recommended. Hope to see you at one of the classes.
