SO, is XCR reliable ?
SO, is XCR reliable ?
if you have NEW 6.8 XCR with the new style bolt catch, and barrell bolt fastened to 200 and Barrett mags :
Would you trust your life to it ?

I hope I can decipher this because you're writing in some serious short hand
Yes mine has been reliable
Yes the new bolt catch is better than the old one.
Torque barrel bolt to 250" lbs

I trust mine so much that it is my duty rifle.
Learn the pros and cons of the rifle and it will treat you well. It will most likely need a break in period and I recommend the checking of bolt torque when you clean it.
Don't expect every AR accessory to work perfectly for you as there are differences in the sight plain between the two. Tailor your heights to the XCR and all is good.

A solid 20% of our sales goes toward law enforcement using the XCR as a duty weapon. We've seen the XCR T&E'ed countless times without failure
We also have a good relationship with several instructors that use the XCR as their primary weapon during training. Their guns have been brutalized with tens of thousands of rounds and continued to operate with nothing more than routine maintenance
Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have additional questions.

It looks like a version of daewoo k2 type rifle or dr200, The koreans took a AR type rifle and added a piston driven gas system similer to the ak and the fn fal. I would think this is a very good blend a couple of very good rifles.

Tagging this thread. I can name at least 2 instructors that were solidly unimpressed with the gun.

I'm one that uses the XCR. I have more than 15K rounds through it. I used it for a 2500 round instructor class, SWAT trainings, teaching classes, you name it. 2 other guys at work run the XCR as well.

I trust my life to mine!!!! they are my SHTF go to rifle..
Now I have had an issue with one of mine. I sent it back to Rob arms and it was inspected cleaned, repaired, test fired and sent back to me, The Same day it was received!!
I've had "no" issues with it since!!!
Yes you may have to break the rifle in before it's 100% I can deal with that..
Its got advantages over the AR system, and the AR system has advantages over it ( standard).
With a little bit of care it's a very good system..
Oh and one Trainer that use's and abuses his XCR, is John Farnam.

I don't know of any agency or military that uses them. That is an indicator for me, and why I always stuck to Colts even before I knew anything about "the chart".

I know of a couple.
Ben "Rifle Sensei" Kurata of International Training Inc. I had the chance to talk to him briefly when he was here in Utah. He spoke highly of the XCR's performance.
John Farnam of Defense Training International, Inc. He's been an XCR advocate for a couple of years now.
Dont quote me, but I believe Erik Lund of USSA also has or does instruct on the XCR
I'm actually hoping to squeeze into a Farnam class with a couple of other XCR owners in Utah next month. Taking the XCR and LWRC M6A1 as a backup. I'll get pics if it all plays out

I spoke with Mike Brown of USSA,during the OKC Magpul class and he said that Erik Lund had or did use a XCR.
During that class Chris Costa had good things to say about the XCR's to.

XCR owner here for 3-4 years now.
my $.02 if it counts for anything. I have at least 4-5K rounds thru XCR's and it's been thru several training classes to boot.
I wouldn't have it as my ONLY EBR. It makes an excellent second seat to the AK, and would get chosen before the AR-15 in my house.
Once you get to know the manual of arms and it's specific maintenance requirements, it makes a fine and reliable rifle.
IMHO instructors who do not have significant time behind the trigger of an XCR hold little to no water as to thier opinions of the rifle. Most base thier opinion of the rifle on the "in class" experience of the trainees' who pay them to learn how to use the rifle.
Seems a bit silly to trust someones evaluation of a rifle (good or bad), that is as tenuous as watching a conscript try to un-fuck his rifle or putting a few rounds down range.
TMK the only tier 1 instructor to run an XCR, is John Farnam. He has run the XCR to it's limit, and he is more than frank on its in's and out's in his evaluation of it in his blog... http://www.defense-training.com/quips/quips.html
I've had the XCR both break and run thru abusive situations so i can relate form both sides of the arguement. the one constant has been the outstanding customer service I've gotten from RA tho.

Interesting. I will keep an eye on his writings.
I would really like the XCR to turn in to something great. I am skeptical of it at this point, but I am hoping to be surprised.
I think I would like to see fewer screws and bolts, and more pins, before I committed the funds to one, though.

I have a PDW upper coming in today to put together the lightest, shortest, non NFA XCR available. I will be doing some accuracy testing and have talked to a videographer about putting together a short video.
I am looking at doing an over the beach test with it, a sand test, and probably a mud test (may or may not as the pond at the range is on an old quarry and full of sand and silt so the over the beach test may be enough).
What would you like to see, within reason, as it is my personal gun. My gun has over 15K rounds through it and will be clean and oiled as if going to work with it before any tests.
TIA.
