Slings

What are your thoughts/recommendations on slings? I'm considering getting a Magpul MS2 single point sling. Are there other good options in single point slings? What are your thoughts on single point versus two point slings?

There's a ton of info on this if you look around. The single point is nice for transitions but not so practical if you're going to climb, treat a casualty, or really do anything other than transitions. You'll have the rifle dangling in your way and on the ground.

I have the MS2 sling and honestly I don't really like it. The adjustment is too stiff to be really functional and all the crazy hardware is clanky and overkill. I'm procrastinating buying a blueforce/Vickers sling to try out, but it looks like a good bet and I wish I'd bought that in the first place.

Which one? I had also considered the VCAS Cobra.

That's what I have. The Blue Force Gear/Vickers were highly recommended in the threads I found. I don't have the link handy but there was a great thread on the most practical uses for the various types of slings (1, 2 and 3 point).

I would avoid those Cobra buckles. They're heavier than they need to be and tend to jam up. I believe they were intended for applications that need really high strength (which this isn't).

I have had pretty good luck with my slings from Jason at Gear Sector.

I think I will try a blue force gear VCAS on my new BCM M4 and see which I like better.

I'm setting it up now (DD Rail Mount QD Swivel Attachment Point and Magpul ASAP Ambidextrous Sling Attachment Point). It will be used as a LE duty rifle.

If you can find one, pick up the MS2. Personally, I think it is a great product and it works for me!

16" barrel? What stock do you use?

I wouldn't commit to the ASAP until I had also committed to the MS2 sling. For attaching most 2-point slings you'd be better off with the DD or Noveske endplate that accepts a QD swivel, if you choose to attach there. Personally for a 2 point on a full size carbine I'd put a QD socket on the outboard rear of your stock, and attach there. I think that spreading out the attachment points will make your rifle more stable if it's hanging and you're using your hands for other things (which is probably a good chance if you're using it for LE duty).

I agree with LOKNLOD. For LE work, a 2-point adjustable sling attached to the rail and butt will probably be your best bet.

You have to watch out with the bolt-on attachments for the pushbutton quick release rings. Some of them mound the ring too low, which will quickly irritate your thumb, or too high which will interfere with manipulating the charging handle.
