Help with FF rail install

Has anyone ever cut or shaved down the bayonet adapter on the bottom of the gas block? That's the only thing between completion right now. I have a grinder that will lay waist to it if needed but I will have to duracoat that little spot again.
Thanks in advance for advice!

I have but what is your question? I usually use a hack saw, followed by a bench sander, followed by some type of bake on paint. I very much prefer these to a gas block held on by screws.

My question was if anyone had cut it off and your method.
I would pull off the block but I dont want to spend the money and or scrape the barrel up since it has been duracoated. I will just grind it down and touch up the bare metal based on your experience with it.

I shaved it down cutting the FSB and bayo-lug and sling swivel off to put a Troy MRF-R rail on it. Took about 20 mins and I simply painted it black.

That rifle is no longer---The upper and lower are down in AL getting cerakoted, while the barrel, bolt, FSB/GB, tube, and FH are sold. A Wilson Combat 6.8 16" stainless middy barrel and lo-pro GB are going to go on the upper after I get it back. And a JP VTac rifle length handguard And a Vortex Strikefire red dot And my TLR-1 with pressure pad....Can't wait. Hope this helps.

On average lately I'm shaving about 3 FSBs per week at work.

While it can be done on the barrel, it's a lot easier to do with the fsb removed. Easier to move around in the vice, and no worries of slipping and getting into the barrel.

Here's the one I did last week with nothing but a 4.5" grinder. I had planned on taking a die grinder to it to really clean it up, but impatience got me.

Just so it's still cool, it's still "F" marked.

I just rattle canned it with whatever type of black paint was laying around the shop. If I notice the paint burning off, I'll use something else on it later, not real concerned about it.

BBQ paint works well. I have a can of rustoleum brand stuff that says works up to 1200F.

I have grinded it far enough down to fit now and starting to paint so I will post a pic when finished.
Anyone ever paint the gas tube?

When I painted my 16" SS MRP barrel I didn't remove the gas tube/block, but painted them too! I decided to try to eliminate the bright silver of the tube.
I used 1200 degree Duplicolor with Ceramic engine paint, baked it about 3 hours afterward in the oven at whatever they recommend on the can.
The unpainted part of the barrel and the barrel extension both turned blue, but the unpaintd part of the gas tube remained silver.

Now, years and several thousand rounds later there is no trace of any loss of color, adhesion, or anything.
And I'm not sure about the SS turning blue, but if anything this has been one of the most outstanding barrels I have ever had. Very accurate with 55 through 77gr ammo.
