So what ever happened to Charles Daly?

I remember when Charles Daly was a respected name on here. One of the big guys from CDD came here and solicited suggestions on how to build their carbine and the result had a lot of folks moving their heads in a vertical motion.

now, not so much.

what gives???

What happened is that 6920s started selling for less than $1100 again and are in stock.

In all seriousness I had a customer who wanted to order a Charles Daly shotgun and I was having a tough time finding one. I called Charles Daly and the sales guy told me that they had fallen behind on delivery for a few items. I have no idea if the ARs were incldued in that comment.

I don't really have any inside info but it seems they are investing heavily in their Tavor project.

Same here. Something about putting my face right over the action just doesn't appeal to me.

I always thought the CD was the victim of bad timing. They had big things planned and just as they got going Obama got elected and parts got scarce fast. I remember reading a thread on their board when they (Michael I believe) said that they were having a had time with some of the vendors who put them at the bottom of the list when it came to filling back orders because they were the new kids on the block. Now that they have the Tavor in the works I wonder how much energy or effort that they want to invest on making ar's.

Where do you think the BCG and gases go on an AR during firing?

I wouldn't mind a Tavor for fun at the range provided its has close to a sub 1k price point and is reliable. Id like an AUG clone, too, but they are all priced too high for something I just want to experiment and plink with.

'Anybody know if they will pursue the pistol caliber versions? I seem to recall a 9mm Tavor that took Glock mags. That would be more desirable to me...

Charles Daly is still very much involved in the AR market, though I don't think any AR maker is cranking out very many guns these days. The market is completely saturated and over supplied. All of our wholesale distributors have anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 different AR's in stock. This market segment is, and always has been, feast or famine.

That being said, many posters are correct in that we are spending a lot of time on the Tavor project and hope to have a formal industry launch at the 2010 SHOT Show in January. To those who think it is ugly I would say that "form follows function". The Tavor has proven itself in 3 years in Gaza and Lebanon and the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) has stated that the gun needs no further improvements/modifications. Regarding the Tavor in pistol calibers, there is a 9mm conversion kit for the Micro-Tavor but the Micro is SBR only and won't be seen before 2011, if at all.

We are also working on another new project, the JR carbine. We introduced this just last week to the wholesale trade at the NASGW show in Reno. It's a really cool carbine chambered for 9mm, .40S&W and .45ACP. Looks like an AR with 6-position AR buttstock (upgraded from standard M4), grip (upgraded from standard A2) and aluminum carbine length quad forearm but functions as a blowback pistol. Completely ambidextrous with an interchangeable mag well that you can buy to accommodate most popular pistol magazines. It will be supplied with a mag well that accepts Glock mags but magwells will also be available for the Springfield XD, Beretta 92, Sig 226, 1911, etc., etc. Plus it has a 16.1" barrel with the triangular flats similar to a Remington VTR, only our flats do not extend all the way to the muzzle as Rem does (better harmonics from ours I'm told). MSRP will be around $899.00. (Real world around $799.00.) We were told it was one of the "hits" of the show.

So, we have been very busy with a number of new projects, but we are still very much in the AR business, just waiting for the next run on the market!

Sounds cool.

Not a big fan of PCCs, but those are the features I'd look for in one.

To all our friends, fans, supporters and consumers of Charles Daly and by extension, KBI products, I regret to inform you that the rumors of our demise are true.

KBI is going out of business and closing its doors, effective today, January 29, 2010.

I don't want to go into each and every detail as to why this has occurred, except to say that there have been a multitude of events over the past five years that have contributed to our current situation.

For those of you with ongoing service requirements please be advised that we are currently negotiating with several companies that will be performing after-sale service of Charles Daly, CD Defense and Jericho firearms. As soon as we have finalized a contract with one of these companies we will post the name, address and contact details of that company on www.CharlesDalyForum.com, so you will know who to contact to obtain service on your KBI firearm.

Again, I wish to thank all of you that have supported our company, Charles Daly and all the other fine firearms that we have sold over the years.. This spells the end of KBI but I imagine it will certainly not mean the end of Charles Daly® and CD Defense™. Look for this excellent brand to resurface in the very near future.

Sincerely,
Michael B. Kassnar, President
K.B.I., Inc.

It sucks to see one go under like this. Someone will probably pick up the rights to the Tavor project, but I doubt it will ever go over well here in the states. We seem to have an aversion to bullpup designs. If whoever does it comes in at a price point well under a decent AR, it might grow legs though. Glock saturated the market early on with an ugly gun that lots of people panned, but the price was attractive for a tough, well designed firearm.

CD might be getting restructured, hopefully we haven't seen the last of them.
