YHM Barrels? Any good?
I am working on and finishing up my first custom build on my own (from scratch)... I have the lower (Spikes Tactical) assembled and what not, the upper minus the barrel.
So, I was going to go with the Noveske 10.5 barrel, but at $365 its pricy... i am still leaning that way but i stumbled across a YHM Barrel, chrome lined,1/9 twist, fluted for $170! Either it isnt that good, or im missing something.....the novekse comes with a VLTOR gas block already pinned too....this way i need a gas block and a flash hider...i was also thinking about the BCM Stainless or CHF but again, need a gas block still and a FH.
Have any of you used or know of the YHM Barrels? I know they make other pretty good AR furniture but i dont know about their barrels? any info or direction would help? THANKS!

It really depends on what your definition of "good" is. My definition of GOOD does not have the word "YHM" in it. YMMV
I also have ZERO interest in 1/9 twist barrels.
SS barrels and chrome lined barrels are two different animals and really designed for different things. There are positives and negatives to each.

I have a YHM rifle and am actually building another upper for it as well.. Going to use the YHM 10.5" barrel too.. I can hold 1.5"- 2" groups at 200 yds with my YHM rifle now.. Take it, it is a 16" barrel but was told that with a 10.5" barrel it would do the same... I've never seen nor shot any of the other barrels listed but I'm using the YHM 10.5" for my build mainly because I have experience with YHM lol! All depends on your budget..
Wow!!! Didn't realize that this thread was 2 years old lol! Well take it for what it's worth..

I have a yhm 16 and a BCM 14.5..I haven't shot the YHM for groups but it shoots good enough. . But honestly if you want a good barrel I agree with grant Noveske or BCM
I as well didn't realize it was that old of a thread..oops.

If this is your first build and you are on a budget, why are you looking at a 10.5? I would say it is smarter to take that 200 dollars you would spend on the tax stamp, not to mention all that time and just get a 16 or a 14.5 barrel.
Then you need to decide whether you want a stainless barrel or a chrome lined. The issue is accuracy (stainless) vs durability (CL).
As said before, Noveske is great, so is BCM. But I would also add Danielle Defense or Centurion are great for CL. A little more expensive than BCM though. For stainless, I really like my Shilen barrel from Rainier Arms. I have the higher end Ultramatch one. But I have heard that the Select versions shoot well too. http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=sho...15/m16_barrels

My opinion on this echos my opinion on pretty much every piece of AR-related equipment. With so many known good options, many for the same, or just slightly increased cost, why would you spend money on an unknown quantity?
