Does the Daniel Defense M4 have a Cold Hammer Forged barrel?

Does the Daniel Defense M4 have a cold hammer forged barrel like the XV and version 2?

I just ordered one from DSG Arms and they, as well as AIM Surplus advertise it as such, but the Daniel Defense site lists a standard barrel for the M4.

I'm curious, didn't find an answer in previous threads, and am too impatient to wait until Monday to call DD to clear up the disparity.

I took this off the site that you ordered your rifle from:

The Daniel Defense new tactical M4 is ready to shoot out of the box, it has all the necessary upgrades to make it a high end tactical AR15 type rifle. More information to come soon...

Specs:

1:7 Cold Hammer Forged Barrel
Extended Feed Ramps
MAGPUL MOE Buttstock
MAGPUL PMAG
MAGPUL Enhanced Trigger Guard
Daniel Defense OMEGA-X 12.0 FSP Rail System
Daniel Defense Back Up Rear Sight
Daniel Defense Vertical Grip
Enhanced Magazine Well

I believe when DD first got started they did not use the CHF barrel, but have been making them for some time now. The DDM4 does have a CHF as far as I know.

This article states that as of July 1, 2009 the DDM4 comes with the CHF barrel

This one also mentions the CHF

Originally the M4's shipped with standard barrels.

All DD uppers and rifles now ship with CHF barrels.

I assume it will be marked if it's CHF? I have an earlier DDM4, serial # in the low 300's. I don't think it has a CHF barrel, but would like to be sure.

AI or AJ? If I remember correctly, the barrels weren't marked differently.

It's an AJ.

Possible it is, but highly doubtful.

No dice for me then. Mine says DD MP 4150 5.56 NATO 1/7. My awesome carbine narrowly avoided being even more awesome, how will I live with myself?

Talked to someone about this at Daniel Defense yesterday. They said if it say's Savannah Ga, on the lower is should have a CHF barrel. He said that the barrels have no special markings than the non CHF.(Date?). I have a lower number AJ model.

I believe some dealers still have the original non-hammer forged barreled guns that they are selling at a discount.

SHOULD HAVE being the operative term, but not necessarily. Before the move to Black Creek none of the barrels were CHF. Even for a little while after they weren't. But I think we were still building some of the "Savannah, GA" lowers once the hammer forge was up and operational. Anything over AJ1000 should have a chf barrel. I didn't know about the barrel markings either until I called a buddy of mine who is still there to confirm. At this time the barrels are stamped with a date, which will be replaced with a batch number instead in the future, but just because your barrel has neither does NOT mean it isn't CHF. If I remember correctly the barrels we were installing didn't have the date stamp on them (last one I built was at the end of July.)

My XV barrel is marked DD 5.56 NATO 1/7. Isnt it supposed to have 4150 MP on it?

Yeah, but I don't know how long they played around with markings before they decided what was finally going to be stamped on the barrels. i wouldn't sweat it. All the XV's were built with CHF barrels.

I had emailed once before trying to figure out what serial number was the cut over. My DDM4 is on a Savannah lower with a number well under 1000 so I guess I'm out in the cold (pun intended). Oh well, still a great rifle.

It's possible, depending on if it's AI or AJ. If it's AI I'm about 99% sure it's NOT a chf barrel.

i bought an m4 bbl that was noted to be chf and I emailed dd...here is the reply as I had the same markings:

We did have a batch of hammer forged barrels without the date stamp. The roll mark is exactly as you described so I am confident it is a hammer forged barrel.
