I will. If im going to spend $1100 on a sight im going to carry on a fighting carbine I want the batteries to last longer than 500 hrs. if Aimpoint can get a 2moa dot to run for 60,000 plus hours on one battery then I'd think that eotech could pull off at least 30,000 with 2 batteries.

Your battery math is fallible.

Different batteries, different methods for "making red." But you already knew that though.

I'm sure there's an aimpoint thread around here. You can get a 3x magnifier and aimpoint for $1200 if you really want that. You just won't find that here.

Fighting rifle huh? You have a fighting rifle you buy optics for?

Oh, and it's 70 hours.

Why are you getting defensive about it like you designed the thing. All I was implying is that it would be nice to have better battery life out of the thing for the price. I know there are different variables in the way it is lit and the battery and such but i am no engineer it was an example. You are not in the military are you? Or in law enforcment? Some of us havent not been issued optics yet and most departments will not so yea it would be for a "fighting Carbine".

Lasers are a lot less efficient converting electrical energy to coherent optical energy versus non-special light used to illuminate 99% of illuminated optics out there. Not an excuse, but one reason why battery life is considerably less. A lot of red dots out there claim to be "laser" but they aren't actually powered by lasers since they tend to be more expensive (especially for ruggedized packages) than regular LED-style illumination.

So you are a police officer? That doesn't qualify it as a fighting carbine.

I didn't design it and wasn't being defensive. I reacted equally and opposite to your comments. I was counterpointing- actually, I was answering your questions.

You can put new batteries in while training at the range. You can put new batteries in every Thursday if you want. You'll never have them die on you while "fighting."

debating on the 3x or 4x i can pick up the 3x when in comes is in... WHEN it comes in. for about 400$. or do i just spend more and get an ACOG? i really really hate making choices. anyway things to think about. I might as well just realize and quit lying to myself, and just by both. what the hell its only money right?

The 552's were 350 hrs (not sure if that is Li or Alkaline), so I wouldn't expect the 557 to be any worse.

Does anyone know if this sight sits higher than a 551/552 or is it still compatible with a Larue Riser or lower 1/3rd co-witness?

I'm still waiting on a 553 sans-ARMS lever.

It's probably exactly the same height as the 553.

It is the length of the 5x2 series but "clears handguards" and I'm sure by that, L3 means that it clears M4 handguards.

You can see in the pics how the front underside isn't the same depth as the rear.

It sure doesn't look as boxy as the 553 but I'm just guessing it is the same height.

512/552, w/lithiums, are specced at an 1,100 hr battery life. Alkalines are a bit less, and the N-modeled 511/551s were also less. EoTech Specs

The units power up at setting #12, at least that what it looks to my eye. I normally pump mine up a bit more in daylight, but #12 is plenty bright for dusk conditions, you can even get by a little dimmer.

557 are 123's, correct? Are they supposed to provide equal life to AA lithiums or are they closer to alkalines?
