If I'm not mistaken, I think that the ACOGs are just anodized like your receivers, not rubber coated.

I've painted rubber coated optics before with krylon. You're either not shaking the can well enough, and or you're spraying too close and too thick a layer of paint. The key is to 'layer' on the paint gradually so you don't get a sticky glob of paint on there.

When spray-painting pretty much anything you want the first coat to be a light one. I normally wait until that coat is a little tacky and then shoot a second coat. Do as many coats as you want but make sure none of the coats look glossy or overly wet while spraying -- esp. when using flat/ultra flat colors.

There's one spot on my recently Kryloned lower that has stayed a little tacky... the end of one of the take-down pins. Guess I left a little oil on there. Everything else dried up nicely; never painted plastic so I can't comment on that.
edit- I live in GA and it's plenty humid here. Doubt that's your problem unless you're not waiting long enough between coats.

I have the same problem due to the Georgia humidity. I have noticed that the Khaki Krylon seems to take forever to cure over plastics. The OD Green doesnt have this problem. Idunno

I would say its to humid and/or your coats are to thick. I own a automotive paint company and I also DuraCoat. Try (well i guess its to late) doing lots if thin coats and using a hair dryer or heat gun in between coats. If painting rubber (ACOGs are not rubber in any way) use some BullDog adhesion promoter in the same light coats first. And since you know how to paint I wont go into the cleaning and prep needed.....

I had the same problem painting a cheap spotting scope. Cover the optic glass and let the scope set in the sun a few hours. The heat will finish the paint cure and take the stickiness away.
