Pistol Lights on a Rifle???
Will a TLR-1 hold up on a AR? I put mine on and have been messing around with it and it seems to work okay, but I don't have much to compare it to. I eventually want a scout light, but I dont' want to damage the light if the rifle shock will be harder on it than what the manufacturer intended.
Thanks for you input.

I've used my TLR-1 on my ARs with no problems so far. Since I got a TLR-3 for my handguns, the TLR-1 has stayed on an AR pretty much full time.

Lot's of folks run TLR-1's and the sort on their AR's. I like it on mine because it's simple and light. As for durability, I also run a TRL-1 on my Mossy 500, and it's taken it's fair shair of abuse. I've never had a problem with either. Here's a pic with the mossy and AR:

Lights like the x300 provide the same performance as full-sized Surefires. Just as bullet-proof, and actually produce more lumens than lights twice the size. Remember, ounces equal pounds. If just blasting at the range, who gives a shit, but for real-world, you'd be surprised how heavy an M4 feels in 130 degree heat. The best part, for me anyway, is the butterfly activation. No pressure switch that seems to die at the worst possible time, or a fussy tailcap to deal with. The x300 is somewhat expensive, but you'll have it for a long, long time.
Bizzarolibe - Nice AFG and cluster rail on the ol' scattergun. I had a similar setup the last time in Iraq. (Minus the AFG, which had yet to be invented; I used a stubby vertical grip and Surefire.) Add a short rail on top for a C-More sight, an M4 buttstock, some slugs, and God-damn if that motherfucker didn't do some damage! I'll leave to the imagination what it did to men in close quarters, but it made quick work of the sturdiest locked doors. Probably the best were the non-lethal rounds. I don't give a fuck who you are; a sandbag round to the guts will force you to rapidly consider your dedication to a jihad.
Be safe.

There is absolutely nothing to be concerned about with running a TLR-1 or Surefire X300 pistol light on a rifle/carbine. The X300 is currently one of, if not the most popular carbine mounted weaponlight on the market right now.

I actually set up my brother's Mossy 500 pretty close to what you described, except I put a Bushnell TRS-25 mini red dot on it. He loves it. I thought about setting mine up similarly, but for home defense it's fine like it is. Within 15 feet, the pattern pretty much goes right in the middle of the light beam

Agreed. I have and use both, but if you are short on cash, the TRL-1 works just fine for it's intended use, IDing Friend from Foe in low or no light situations.

I have an M3X on one of my long guns. It's a pretty good light, it has a pressure pad, plus a 3 position rocker switch for off/pressure pad function/constant on
It takes up less rail space then the 6P I had prior. Theres an LED bulb that just came out for the thing, too. Once the incandescent bulb(s) I have dies i'll probably upgrade to soonish.

I personally prefer the look of a longer light on a long gun - but I know a lot of people who use the TRL1,2 or x300 on their rifles. They'll be fine

Thanks for the opinions guys. I think I will keep the TLR1 mounted up for a while and run it to see how it goes.

All of my AR's were using an X200/300 at some point until I went with the M952V. My wifes carbine currently has an X300 on it.

Doesn't .40s&w on a handgun have more recoil than .223? (Or probably still more recoil than a .308 AR)
I think on the pistol, they get much more sudden acceleration.
I like them because they are so light and compact.

The M952V is the IR capable light. X300 works great. The only downside I discovered using them on carbines was that as the switches get worn, we noticed white light ADs when the bolt went into battery between shots or when reloading. If white light ADs are an issue for them, run a scout light, if not run the X300.

I used Insight M3s for years - handguns and rifles. I've since switched to custom SF 6Ps and G2s w/ Z48 switch for long guns, but the M3s worked pretty well. The rocker switch was a bit too prone to NDs when jumping in and out of vehicles
AFAIK the NAVSEA SOPMOD program recommendation for active aiming subsystems includes SU-233 (based on the M3X) for a gun light.

Good observation, I wouldn't have thought that to be an issue. Though my x300 switch has loosened up a bit, but not to a point of it being an issue.
I wonder if SF would replace it?
To the OP the recoil on a carbine isn't usually near as tough on the lights as their intened useage... handguns.
