Arrow SureFire 60rd and 100rd AR magazines

Defense Review posted a story on the new SureFire 60rd and 100rd AR mags designed in a partnership with Jim Sullivan & Bob Waterfield. From the article it appears that Sullivan designed the M193 .55grain nato round as well as the original 20rd box magazine for the 5.56.

Link to article here.

That 100 rounder looks like a bad Photoshop job lol. First thought when I saw the pics, Surefire's trying to get a magazine contract for Marine's IAR.

It may look retarded but if it works as advertised it'll cost and weigh less than a drum magazine. That's a clear winner in my book. Now, if we can only get them to make these mags for our favorite 308 battlerifles!

I guess you could get a set of offset irons or an offset mount for an Aimpoint Micro and shoot 'gangsta' prone...

You could always remove the extra stuff from the rails of your carbine- spare flashlight, BUIS, vertical grip, grenade launcher, water filter, first aid kit, emergency MRE, spare Blackberry with expanded video & music library and back up IPod, the selection of specialized multi-tools...

What?- Don't tell me none of you ninjas roll out with style

I just can't notionalize how that design would work. But if it did work, that 60 would be quite practical. I agree with the hundo being a little retarded though.

I wonder why he didn't just adapt the Ultimax 100 drum.

Is there some reason why it couldn't be adapted for an AR?

The Russkies beat us to the punch. Here's a page on the AK versions, complete with cutaway from the patent:

Drum mags have wasted space compared to box mags.

I can see replacing the belt fed SAW with an open bolt LMG that uses two of those quad stack 100rd mags clipped together with a total of 200rds.

Plenty of rounds, fast reloads, no feed tray assembly, lighter LMG.

Ugh, I'll take a SAW over a IAR any day. Anyone who's spent a lot of time (or ANY time for that matter) as a dismounted machine gunner will know you're in the prone usually when you're at a halt, and especially when you're in contact. I have a hard time seeing anyone use the 100 round mag for anything other than at a guard position or mounted in a truck, both of which aren't what the IAR were designed for. Also the MSRP for the 60 rounder $129 and $179 for the 100. Yikes.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but mag fed support weapons scream FAIL.
