BCM M-4 or Spikes M-4?
I would appreciate some input please, I'm checking out BCM M-4, mil-spec barrels which is great. For $200 more, Spikes Tactical is offering a cold hammer forged barrel M-4. So what would you go for?

BCM is highly used across this board by S.M.E., Industry Pros, Staff, and board members. I say you use the orange/yellow search button on top of the forum and type "BCM problems" and you will find very few. Do the same for Spikes and form your decision.
VS threads only get you fan boys of both sides.
Good Luck in your search.

The CHF Spike's Tactical rifle uses all Daniel Defense parts with Spike's upper and lower receivers. If CHF is that important, you aren't going to be buying a crap rifle, just dumb roll marks(says the owner of 2 Spike's rifles)
I'd go BCM, 500 rounds of Federal XM193 and a couple PMags.

I have never owned anything from Spikes. I have on the other hand owned several BCM uppers and I have never had a moments issue with any of them. Fit and quality of the components is top notch and if it matters to you the finish is also very good. BCM has a great shopping cart, if it’s not in stock you can’t buy it and their shipping time is very good.

I know my opinion isn't worth as much as most people on here, but I would say either is fine. If it were me, I would save the 200 bucks (CHF from what I've researched isn't really needed... BCM barrels are great anyways) and put it towards ammo/optics.
I have one BCM rifle and another on the way.
Were you saying M4 as in the M4 carbine gas system? It seems as if mid-length is the way to go now days, smoother operation.

BCM also offers CHF Barrels so I'd go with BCM. BCM really has earned a great reputation in the last few years. I have ordered tons and tons of accessories and stuff from them, but have never gotten a complete rifle from them yet. I will say that their customer service and shipping is top top notch. I have heard nothing but the best about their rifles, uppers, and lowers though.

If you didnt see this thread: http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=75640 You should probably give it a thorough read.
As far as personal opinions, I have a BCM upper on a DD lower and it has ~1k rounds through it with only 3 malfunctions (which were fixed by swapping my mags to magpul followers). I purchased both the upper and lower from Grant at g&r, shipping was fast and communication was perfect.

Thank you for the reply fella's. Checking out BCM, their M-4's are mil-spec, but not cold hammer forged (CHF), but their mid-uppers are CHF. I was in the market looking for a M-4 for a change. I'm told by allot of people that while CHF is nice, its not really absolutely necessary, what counts I'm told is the quality of the barrel and the hard chrome lining.

I just bought another 14.5 M4 upper. After briefly looking for (and not finding) a reasonable Colt on the EE, I didn't even consider buying something other than a BCM.
Don't worry about CHF:

Another very happy BCM owner here.
CHF is nice, but I doubt that most of us would realize any true benefit from having one over a standard barrel.

Yeah I love my BMC. Its fantastic.
If you don't have a mid length system, I'd suggest it. After having an m4 in the Marine Corps, switching to a middy is a nice change. Smoother feeling shooter than a carbine length gas system.
In hindsight I should have gotten a 14.5" middy BCM with a pinned battlecomp and thrown some mid MOE handguards on there instead of putting an SWS free float on my 16" BCM. The SWS rails are great but they're overkill for my application and they were HELLA expensive
Just my $0.02
This is what I should have gotten with the battle comp installed.
I LOOOOVE the battle comp on my 16". Its damned amazing

Id say go with whatever one you want. I have rifle built with parts from both companies and have had nothing from good experiences from either one.
As for the CHF if you are going to be shooting a shit ton then I would be going with that. But your normal hobby shooter wont shoot enough to see the lasting benifits of the CFH barrel.

I just got a BCM midlength in and took it to the range. Very smooth and accurate. High quality machining, fit, and finish. The only thing I've ever purchased from Spike's was a stripped lower and it was very nice as well. My lower parts kit fit perfectly with no problems.

.
First, decide what you want the gun for - criteria? SD, HD, targets, coyotes, plinking, etc.
Secondly, search, read, read, search, make up your mind and then stick with it.
Thirdly, if you have the money and you want the quality...buy from the left side of the Chart...oh that's right ...there is no Chart. Look at BCM, DD, Noveske, Colt, & LMT and get the best one you can afford that meets your criteria. If you can buy a BCM, don't even worry about the Spike's. In a heads up competition against BCM & Spike's--BCM wins by a mile!
Personally, if you are going to be a 1-gun owner, I'd get a 16" barrel mid-length. Then, you can easily modify the gun to change FH, Comps, HG, gas blocks, etc. in the future.
But maybe it's just me...

Just to add a little more to the mix. Pat Roger's Filthy 14 has a standard barrel, not CHF.

I'm a Colt/FN guy so I think I'm FAIRLY unbiased...
That said, Spikes is the modern day Bushmaster.
Go with BCM.

Make your own decision so we don't end up in another Spike's vs. the World thread.
