Removing an abnormal gas block

So I bought a M&P 15 OR and it has this hideous gas block, well some guy on the internet was able to knock it out with some punches and so on and put a low-profile one in its place; so basically I repeat the exact steps he did even with the pics and guess what.. It did not budge. It did not budge at all like it was welded on... Well my neighbor who has a whole metal shop broke two drill bits in his industrial drill press saying its case hardened and refers me to a EDM, saying they would be able to do it.

So I thought hell ADCO might be able to do it... No go... So what options do I have, because I have a nasty drilled into gas block with a pinned gas block that wont budge... What can I do?

As I have tried everything from dremel, to drill press, to punching it out with punch pins and NOTHING has worked Id like to do it myself before I go find an EDM specialist to do this.

Do you have a pic of it? I can probably get it off.

EDM machining is like... Overkill. Shop rate is $140~ an hour and they will probably end up just grinding it off.

Google says there is a set screw in the bottom, and the taper pins are reverse from normal AR-15.

I was thinking of doing the same on my S&W AR15 OR but, I may think again?

Im pretty much at a loss here. We tried grinding into it after not being able to push it out. So its been a nightmare :-p

Sigh... I know google says its reverse but its not as easy as you think. I mean we really made an attempt to knock this thing out, probably about 3 hours and 3 men trying to punch that taper pin out...

Yes I'm fairly certain I can get that off. It might mean destroying the GB.

Im out of all options and if your able to get it off by all means what would it take to send it to ya and or reimburse you for your time. Because I cant get this damn thing off nor those around me.

And yes that gas block can goto the pits of hell for all I care.

Hey once again thank you for at least answering my questions everyone, really appreciate this as its been such a frustrating experience with this M&P 15 OR gas block.

I did a friend's like that one. I usually can do it with a hammer/punch no bueno on his. I took it to work, and used a 20ton press with a 1" steel bar stock. The bar started to bow before the pin gave. It finally came out, but it wan't going to just fall out.

Once I had a stuck Stag/CMT gas block. Don't do what I did. I tried to drill out the stripped/galled set screws, but case hardened it instead. I also tried cutting at it with a reciprocating saw. In the end I had to embarrass myself by taking it to Rainier Arms and showing them my work. They told me that I lost my right to build an AR ever again but helped me get the set screws off.

LOL.. Well I dont feel embarrassed since I tried every sensible resource I had available and took an educated understanding into this... But christ sakes commercial ARs with those gas block.. Bloody hell never again.
